just wondering when these guys are planning on shipping out the skis.

Really pumped on my new jeronimos coming, but the white stuff is starting to fall i would love to have my nice new skis.

i think it depends on which model go into the press first. but you need not worry they will be on your feet in no time.

i read that a couple weeks about they were pressing the billy goats and all pre-orders are supposed to be shipped out by the end of november! i can't wait!

it depends when they're being pressed

the 181 jmo will be out pretty early whereas the 171 is one of the later ones

either way i doubt there will be a huge gap in between production but i have absolutely no idea, ask scott

I really want to see another update.  I know it's a lot of work and the last one was fairly recent, but now is when we can see the skis being pressed and finished!

the short version is this:

"Our production schedule is all based upon sales volume, so the 186cm Billy Goats will be pressed first. I hope to finish up and move onto the 191cm Wrenegade by the weekend, and then to the 176cm Billy Goat and 181cm Jeronimo next week. That is as far as I want to predict to pressing schedule right now, but following this will be the 181cm Caylor, 191cm Cease and Desist, 191cm Caylor, 181cm Wrenegade, 181cm Blue Steele, 171cm Jeronimo, 171cm Blue Steele, and lastly the 171cm Caylor."

Is anyone familiar with the building process?  Enough so to discuss how much work is done after the pressing?  If I understand it correctly, the skis are cut to shape, edges are installed, and then the ski is touched up and waxed.

the epoxy in the skis needs to cure.
then:
excess trimmed
tips cut
sidewalls planned
base crap ground off
edge + base set flat
waxed

Add to what he said a bit of time for the hot box treatment we are giving all the skis. Soon guys, we're working nearly 20 hours a day.

i'm interested what the method is for cutting the tips and shape of the skis after they come out of the press...seems like a very important part that would need to have some form of formulaic solution so it wouldn't take incredibly long and be incredibly difficult

Jig saw, edge sander, hand sand + inspect finish. Keep it simple. Definitely takes some skill to make it consistently good.

i do what i can, haha. seriously though its pretty precise work and if i fuck it up, it can be bad.

its tough though, knowing that when you're cutting off the excess around the tips and off the edges that if you fuck up you fuck up big and the ski is basically ruined, its a lot of pressure. it makes me do it that much better.

yeah same here for sure!

But scott and sam, is there any chance my Caylors are going to be here by december 18th??? im going to haines for a while and i really really need a big ski. if they are pressed before then i would even be willing to pay an extra 10-20 bucks for a faster shipping, shipping is always a little slow to AK.

i know man, on3p is really fucking impressive

not everyone can successfully make skis, just look at the fail and a half of 333 skis. it doesn't seem to just take the proper tools and skills but a perfectly developed method that's cost, time, quality, and labor effective

what is the chance that the 186 billy goat will be at my door by december 16th? cus i go on winter break after that and am not back at my college break until late january... if they come after that date is there a chance i can change the shipping address?

i'm in the same boat, if they don't come by the 17th then they'll sit at school all break

i'm guessing the billy goats will be there by then, but i'm not sure if my 191 caylors will

if you want to see all the steps that go into building skis visit www.skibuilders.com and look around.
and dont forget that it takes about a week for the epoxy to fully cure. alot of home builders make the mistake of finishing the skis and skiing them the next day before the epoxy has cured 100%
its always good to just have em sit up against a wall or something for at least a week before you try to ride them

We are working on BG right now. We have unfortunately been short handed since last Wednesday as Sam has some medical/dental shit going on and hasn't been able to work. I hope to have him back thursday or friday, but it has definitely sucked a bit because a lot of stuff in here requires two people, so I have been having to help rowen out instead of pressing.

As far as changing shipping, people who are boarderline might just wanna change your address and have me ship them to your homes. That isn't an issue and would ensure your skis don't sit alone at school for a month.

Scott told me mine was an early order and he was planning on getting them out Tuesday (I got the 186 BG too, had to sell off half my room this summer!).  Hopefully that worked out because I will need them soon.
