Resort Managment

How many people do you think want to be a resort manager, and how many do you think there are?

well, first theres the president, who oversees EVERY department on the mountain, allocates funding to each, and makes executive decisions regarding costs, marketing, etc.

then there is directors of each department. my mom runs ski school at my mountain, and she is responsible for hiring staff, spending said funding, and making sure things run smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

underneath her is all her managers, who are a little more hands on with the employees. their responsibilities are scheduling, making sure customer needs are handled, making sure things on the snow run smoothly etc...

they seem to make a decent living though. you would most likely have the summer off and you get ridiculous discounts through pro forms. not a bad job at all.

really? how would it be millions?

this is what i plan to get into
taking my degree in tourism management, then travel the world and then either start working
or get more education in adventure tourism, ski area management, one of the two.

im doing this for the job and the enjoyment from the job, not the money
i could care less about that.

this is what i plan on doing minus traveling the world (probably go to Whistler for a year or something) where are you going to school for this?

Guelph University, Ontario, Canada

there are probably better places in B.C. or the States but this is the best place in Ontario, don't want to be too far away from home, especially first year.
but they have great exchange programs so i plan on doing that in 3rd and 4th year hopefully if money is not too much of a problem, or even if it is, :D !!!

I would imagine that depending on the location / resort your job could be like this with the addition of golf and other year round activities (mountain biking, hiking, weddings, etc)

Your job would be to work with every season to keep people coming back to the resort, even when there isn't snow on the ground, and especially when there is snow on the ground.

It all depends on the location, if you want to run Whistler its going to be different then a park on Pennsylvania.

at my school we have a resort and hospatality mgmt program, but i believe its more hotel based, as the schools in fl, but you should check it out, it FGCU florida gulf coast university, they might have something semi ski related, although i kinda doubt it.

I went to Lyndon State College and got a Ski Resort Management degree.  You have to start from the bottom and work your way up even with a degree
