Getting a camera any ideas ?

hey i waqnt to get a camera for my birthday but i dont no what to get, i want a camera what is around £250 i am now starting a gcse course so i need one for like still shots but i also want it for taking pictures of skiing any ideas?

don't mean to be blunt but there are tons of "what camera should i buy" threads. search around on here and amazon/bh to get a feel of cameras and look at reviews. narrow it down to three or four cameras then come back for advice. btw almost any camera can shoot stills and action, they are the two types of most popular photography, but they will vary in quality depending on price/camera
