Whistler is so damn expensive unless you split up costs with your friends or if you camp. It really depends on what kind of place you want and what the location of that place is.
If you want to drive and all, I recommend that you check out the Brio and Alta Vista village areas. Their both located between Creekside and Whistler Base and are quite close to both. Brio and Alta Vista have the older places in them (think 70s - 80s) so they're big yet cheap. If you can find a place to rent and split up the costs, you may be able to do it.
I just got back from my march break and I stayed in Alta Vista. It's about 1 km from the main Whistler Village so it's only a 5 minute drive. Check it out for sure!
Good luck though...really sounds fun :)

for the money you would spend on a house you could have a pretty sick camping set up. Rig up an old van or something.

Yeah definetly just go to staff accom for the mountain. Blackcomb closes 28th (I think) so they clear out fairly fast and then they let anyone stay there. Like the one guy said it is like 270 a mo, but that is for a shared room (bunk beds.) If you are lucky you might end up having the room to yourself anyway come summer cause there isnt enough people to fill up all the beds. Thats how it was for me anyway. You can pretty much drive up and move in that day. Maybe phone ahead first. I will be out there again this summer too. I may even be bringing the Sandwich Artist Jersey out of retirement.
