Idea for eliminating negative members

So I'm sure most of you have noticed a significant rise in members on here that do nothing but try and pick fights and post controversial things just to get a rise out of people. Along with these members, are high post counts and low karma.

An idea came to me. What about anyone, who's karma has dropped below their post count gets some sort of ban. I would be in favor of a long or permanent ban. I know that there may be some exceptions to this, with members with 15,000 posts and a karma just below that....but for the most part, this would start to weed out some terrible members.

Also, I don't think this would even be an advertised thing. That way people wouldn't gang up on someone. Bad members would just disappear.

I don't know if this would really work, so don't try to hate too much. But after a couple years, the people that are here just for confrontation and hate mongering are really starting to get to me.

Its a good idea, but  perhaps it could be done like this. What about for each of a new member's first 100 posts, there could be an algorithm that would figure out the ration of karma to posts, giving and average or something like that. Then, that member could be flagged should their average be, for the sake of argument, below 50%. Members who are flagged could then have their posts reviewed by the mods, and if the mods deem their posts in poor taste, controversial, or just plain dumb, they could be banned. That way, people are protected even if others chooses to gang up on them when they haven't posted anything truly bad.

I'm not totally sure how or even if that would work, but I think it would be a cool idea.

ahahaha to the post above me. but seriously there are some kids on here that suck dick.  i mean i just made this kid look like a huge bitch and he went and made 5 ns accounts and just used them to pull my karma down. i mean some kids do just need to get the boot but i think the mods do a pretty good job as it  is

Karma isn't an effective enough representation of who the good members or bad members are yet to be able to base a ban on or not. Plenty of assholes post tons and are active on the site (doing things that earn you karma), and have high karma regardless of what others rate them.

I agree that something would be nice to have done about these types of members, but right now I'm thinking that bans based on karma would be a really bad idea. It's not too hard to deal with these people by ignoring them, so right now that's the solution I see.

First of all I don't think there is anything wrong with controversial posts, there is a difference between having a strong opinion and being a dick. Also the karma system doesn't seem that accurate to me. I have 2 accounts and this one my average rating is 3. somthing which is terrible, my other (which I wont name for my karmas sake) has a rating of like 6-7. I do not act any different in either account, it is just kind of the luck I guess.

I think we should just be banning people for really stupid posts like when someone just randomly calls someone a fag or says get back in the kitchen and that kind of stuff. Like harsher bans

Just give us a "flag this member" button.

When someone clicks it, the user's posts/threads/etc. are reviewed by a mod. If the button is pressed and the mod finds nothing wrong with the post in question (i.e. the flagger was just trying to piss off the flagged), then the flagger gets a 48-hour ban.

Haha it doesnt even do anything why would I be pissed off? I think its hilarious mods still try to get rid of me. With macros I have a new NS account in less than a minute and its only 1 button to flip on the proxy network~

well....after making this karma-raping thread. I've realized that the best option for this site is to stay out of the ignorant-laden teenager wonderland known as NSG. Luckily, these people haven't found SG or Regionals. Hopefully this thread made some sort of an idea pop into someone's head to help this site out a bit.

terrible idea. yeah some people have low karma because they are D-bags but some people have low karma because they actually voice their opinion about something and some people on here cant handle that.
