Video Load times

Hey everyone -

Just wanted to check and see if anyone has noticed quicker video load times since last week? We've been doing a bunch of optimizing in preparation for our massive upgrade of the media handling on the site.
Upgrade is still a ways off, but we're hoping we got the video load times up there.

Pictures eh? Do tell, do tell!

What is with the picture load time? The issue here is probably the fact that we keep the ultra high quality version of the picture. If we dialed that down a bit we might be able to speed it up.

Talk to us about picture load time. If this is going to get fixed, now is the time!

There is a difference between "ultra high res" and "enough res for your desktop." With point and shoot cameras these days those 11 megapixels could fill up several of you monitors with the same shot. It's the reason you click on a picture and you get some giant image you need to scroll through to see the entire thing.

What I'm getting at here is people shouldn't upload the 2100x1500 with 2400 pixels/inch files. Some way of downsizing to something reasonable like 1024x786 with 72 pixels/inch would improve upload times I'd think. My monitor is old and I don't really know what newer ones on newer OS are running, but how many people run more than 1200 px wide and like 800px tall? Maybe widescreens? I really don't know though. I'm on 1024x786 by the way.

Also, just resize your stuff. Take down the resolution and such. That could help the problem without any major changes. Request a larger file if you need it from the owner, maybe they'll send it to you.

put it under use settings or something to choose if you want lower res pics of the original

yeah i suppose that makes sense. im 1280x800. although i do have a 21 inch tv i use as my external monitor.

Video load time are so much better, I can actually stream an NS video now without having to pause it.
