CBC Fifth Estate: Sam Brown Smuggling Pot

i know this is an old story, but just saw a really good documentary done on this by the fifth estate.
long story short Sam Brown is a mtn biker from nelson, that was in a few movies a couple years back, and unfortunately was caught smuggling 200kg of weed across the U.S border. He ended his life in with a noose. Watch it, its really really well done.

i met the kid at mike wiegele heliskiing while i was working there.  his girlfriend was the bartender there.  seemed like a nice kid.  when it happened everyone was affected.  such a waste.  and for what?  just some pot? fucking dea.

yea man from everything ive heard about him and seen, he looked like such a nice kid. Sucks so much that he got caught up in that, and the douche bags that didnt inform him about the contact missing should be run over by a train

id just like to point out that that is around 3/4 of a million dollars of weed depending on quality and location.

thats a dumbass risk to take.

that guy in the doc. said he wasn't stupid but clearly he was pretty stupid to be flying a chopper with no license and a shitload of budz. just a waste of life though, sad that he hung himself.

Funny thing he didn't even smoke pot. He frowned upon drug dealers, and didn't consider himself one.

no the real problem was the he was knowingly and illegally smuggling almost a million dollars worth of drugs over a border in a helicopter that he wasn't licensed to fly...

just because something should be legal isn't an excuse...

whatever though, ill leave the thread alone cause he did seem like a cool guy aside from his issues.

The reason these dangerous smuggling operations exist in the first place is because of the war on drugs. If drugs were legal and regulated it would get rid of things like this and make everyone safer.

I just found your statement ridiculous in the fact it's been said millions of times on NS. If you're gonna say some pro-drug rhetoric, at least say something novel and not something every 15 year old knows by now.

I'm an extremely vocal proponent of legalization. I guess you haven't caught any of the legit "legalize it" threads where myself and many others have rambled on for pages about the truths of drugs.

I mean yeah, drugs should be legal. But you're not gonna change anyone's mind by saying whatever you said. So my bad if you thought I was mean.

maybe im missing the point your getting at but really??? What is the point to your negative comments?

It pisses you off that people feel bad for this guy? If your in this forum I assume you smoke weed, therefore you are participating in an illegal market. This illegal market wouldnt exist if it wasnt for people who are willing to take risks like this guy did. If everyone just bent over to the law as you suggest then we would have no weed to smoke. Is that what you want?

just to the haters out there, try looking at it this way.
If it was you that was caught doing this, and you that hung yourself in prison, how would your family remember you? Would they dwell on the fact that you were doing something illegal? i dont think so.
They would Remember you for who you were in life. Sam was a fun loving guy who always made everyone feel happy around him. He did this last run to try and get money to bail his friend out of prison who had been caught. Yes it was a dumb miscalculated risk, but he was doing it for more than himself...

he was a good helicopter pilot.  he came and landed through a shitty storm when the dea were positive he wasn't going to make it through.  although he did steal that one that he used.

i best most of you kids here saying he was a dumb ass for taking the risks and that you don't feel sorry for him don't know the full story.  so stop jumping to conclusions.  i bet you all felt sorry for johnny depps character got busted by the dea again at the end of blow because he was just trying to start his life over.  
his dad is a master carpenter who built that wheel with sam that you see in the video.  the sad part is; is that he made his sons own coffin.

what got everyone was that he just didn't seem like the kind of guy that would take his own life.  that is what tugs on his parents and everyone that knew him.  can't fathom it.

so sad. i remember seeing his segment in nwd and wished to someday ride like him. i didnt know at all about this untill now, infact i thought he was still big in biking but i guess that changed.  its sooo shitty that he got tricked by the us.   its pretty fucked up what money will do to people or how our nation can hold people in prison and not let them go back to there own country
