Sports video game franchises

I think it is about time the people at EA games start re-thinking the model they have in place for their sports franchise games.
I'm tired of repeatedly having to buy Madden every year only to see 1-2 new features, and many of the same old glitches that have been around for several years now.
I propose they make their sports games subscription based (sorta like World of Warcraft) where you can buy monthly or yearly subscriptions, rather than having to re-buy the game year-after year. Madden (like many other sports games) is a giant work-in-progress, and if it were subscription based they could increase the frequency of updates and patches, and also implement new features and solve any problems on the go (rather than having to rush to complete the game before the its deadline).
This idea seems like a no-brainer to me... am I mistaken?

What is their motive to change? If they know millions and millions will buy their games every year?

well, in a way you are mistaken. This way would limit the amount of hype they could create around the game, and probably bring down their overall profits down. And think of how much you play one of these games every year. I know i play fifa more than any other game i own just because its always different and there's so many match ups you can play. So while it sucks, i'm willing to spend $60 to get who knows how many hours of entertainment playing.

i like the subscription idea. but sports like Madden, for example, are made every year for a reason. if the Giants win the Super Bowl and Eli Manning is the highest rated QB that year (just for arguements sake) then the Giants will be the best team and Eli will be the best QB in the game. If Chad Ochocinco sucks in 2009 then he will suck in Madden 2010. if that makes any sense.

EA has a monopoly on the market. Demand is pretty much perfectly elastic. They'd sell millions every year even if they just put out the exact same game with roster updates.

the way I see it, it would allow them to offer a higher-quality product while maintaining (or even increasing) profitability.
Subscription based updates wouldn't stop them from releasing roster updates and ratings tweaks. they could do so more dynamically
