Reasons why you personally wouldn't own a gun

I'm not talking about other people or whatever your beliefs are in terms of a gun owning society, but why wouldn't YOU own a gun. Don't turn this shit into a gun debate, I just had this talk with my friend once and wanted to see what would happen on NS.

I simply know how mad I get and I wouldn't trust myself with one. I could probably convince myself that killing a man over cutting me in line is logical in a fit of rage.

A lot of people need to know laws before they consider carrying a gun.
90% of the people in my high school think that if you get in a fight and have a gun, you can shoot someone if they are whooping your ass, i bet a lot of people on here believe that. Knowing when you can and should use a gun is about 5 times more important that anything. Also being willing to use it when you need to can be life and death cause someone can just pimp slap it away from you and then your screwed.

Theres probably 6 or 7 guns in my home.  They don't scare me, they don't worry me, and I don't even really think about the fact that I own them.  I use them for sport and that's all I ever intend them being used for.

USA had 11.436 murders with firearms in 2004 I think it was. Canada has more guns per person than you guys, but they had like 56 gun murders.

So no, you guys should not have them.
You are to scared of everything except guns, and end up fireing at everything.

the only reason i wouldnt own a gun, is to save money because i would no longer have any reason to buy ammo

that being said, i own guns, and i shoot on a pretty regular basis

I'm purely talking to the americans here:

Guns are designed to kill, to be weapons of war. When you live in a country where the inhabitants think they need a gun to survive, it's not a good environment to live in.

In Norway we nearly have no guns, except for guns for the purpose of hunting different kinds of game. This actually makes me feel safer when partying. Why?

Because in America, more people than anywhere in the world kill people on pure impulse, for small things that could've been avoided with a good fist fight followed by the usual name calling and spitting in the face - Then go off and enjoy the rest of the night.

Fuck guns, keep them on the battlefield. Don't get me wrong, i'm not a pussy, I'm enlisting the army in Denmark (where i'm Originally from, although I live in Norway) and I've already signed an agreement to go to afghanistan to help you guys out. And just a fun fact: The Danish have the most non us soldiers helping out the US, and Danish troops on average have fought more frontline battles than the US in the middle east during the war.

i think carrying hand guns is a little unnecessary in today's society, but having guns for sport shooting is awesome. shooting is a ton of fun if you do it responsibly and safely. i own a few different guns like a .22 a 12-gauge and a .357 mag, but all are kept in safe secure places where only my father or i can get them. when talking about guns, its all about safety.

so your going to carry a rock and a baseball bat arounf the store with you. Saving someones life isnt a timely manner, you must have a first instinct reaction if you want to save the person. And its just a matter of coincidence that the guy didnt have a gun, plus if he did and the guy wittnessing the incident didnt have one then whats he to do? Yell at the guy?? Carrying a gun is about the best thing you can do in these situations.
As for the vail shootings, i believe the man was wrapped up in the media attention from the Fort Hood shootings. He probably thought that his life was so deppressing that the only way for this lonley man to gain attention was through creating an obsurd situation. And like you said all it takes a gun, but why cant it be any other weapon, a knife, BASEBALL BAT, or a ROCK..

well first of all, he was expecting media coverage cause hes not going to know how much he got when hes dead obviuosly. Second, self defense classes are one a waist of time and two wont do youu much good agianst a dangerous criminal(guarntee it).
Fort Hood is a terrible refrence to use when talking about firearm saftey because the man was in the army. Please tell me you dont want our soldiers to fight with baseball bats too. So no I dont see where youre coming from at all. I know that I am a responsible individual and responsible individuals should have the right to posses a firearm with out any government regulation what so ever. See firearms, outside of hunting and sport shooting, to me are defense mechanisms in which you protect your self and your COMMUNITY around you.
And other weapons are just as dangerous if you want them to be, all it takes is one thrust of the arm to stab some one severally, or one swing of the bat to knock there head clean.

I personally will be getting a Carry permit here in WA state because I am legally allowed to and if I ever wish to purchase a pistol I can walk in, pay, and leave with it that day. I doubt I will ever carry the gun around with me though.

When I'm older I would get one to feel safe...and because they are fun. I dont think I would ever run into the issue of wanting to shoot someone unless they are threatening to kill me or family.

I plan to apply to conceal and carry when I turn 21 next fall, not always going to have it on me but if I ever go out to a shooting range, say I get out at a place I can have it on me and not have to leave it out of my sight. I've taken gun safety I own plenty of shot guns for hunting as well as bows. My dad owns a hand gun and it is a blast shooting targets. I want a glock23 or USP45

ehh were i live has turned out to be like the fucking hood in the past few years, and being someone i knew was shot 2 weeks ago, and once a 380 came like a foot from slapping me in the face, (i was running and it hit a tree) i feel much safer with. Theres no reason that it can hurt to carry a lil gat unless you get checked by the police. Never know when you could save friends/fam/your own life and even if you dnt want to shoot st the poerson you can scare the shit out of them and prolly scare them away

The Danish army has been sent to all the most violent battles because they are effective and really well geared. There are Danish specialist forces have fought 3-4 times as many battles as the US specialist forces.

Who found Hussein? Norwegians and Danish specialist forces, we stepped in when the Americans couldn't - the soldiers even said it wasn't that hard to track him.

There is no need to carry firearms in society anymore, if weapons are hard to get killings go down. in Scandinavia, shootings and murders are really rare because it is hard to get guns. So I don't see why murders and shoot outs make your country better than mine, the pure facts should prove quite the opposite.

i dont understand whats the big deal with people being afraid of guns...maybe its cause i starting shooting at such a young age are realize as long as your not a fucking moron, guns can be not only EXTREMELY fun, but relatively safe(again, depending on the people using them)

i support guns 100%, and think both society and the government have the most fucked up conceptions about them.

o and i personally like number 3 the most ATL!

i heart guns but i am poor. i want to get a concealed weapons permit then i can be just like tom cruise and i could cut in line by simply pointing my gun at someone. or i could get my tomato soup half off by telling the cashier i have a gun. or i could shoot the bathroom door open when it is locked.

If you honestly would think about shooting/killing someone just because you got pissed and have a gun then you have problems. I've grown up with guns everywhere around me (rural minnesota) and I can honestly say I have never had the urge to shoot someone or even thought about it at all. Although I've been around some drunk city kids who think pointing loaded rifles at people is great when partying..

I've got a .22, a 12-gauge, and an 8MM mauser rifle and it's really fun to go shoot targets/beer cans/random small game/birds/whatever. I've only used firearms for hunting/recreation and never had any mishaps where someone got hurt. Also, when I was little my dad and grandpa made it very clear not to play with the guns, and when I finally got to shoot the first time it was so sick. If you go through safety training and get firearm certified I see no reason people shouldn't own firearms, unless they're psycho..

I'm just waiting for an overthrow of the gov't by the people... and the zombie apocalypse..
