Rail trick names

Why do we use the terms frontside and blindside, instead of (for example) pretzel and sameway?
I think it would be more logical if they were named like that, because then you don't have to visualize the trick when someone's telling you about some insane combo they did.

I think I know what you getting at except that when you go on switch a blindside 2sev isnt the sameway its pretzel.

correct me if i'm wrong but is a ray fed a back swap back 2 out because you are blind the entire time? imo thats the sickest siwitch up 270 combo one can do possibly the hardest as well

Ok I had this conversation with EMK earlier and suggested the logical conversion from skateboarding is:

Regular = Riding Forwards, popping normal
Nollie = Riding Forwards, popping off the nose
Switch = Riding Backwards, popping normal (/off the nose)
Fakie = Riding Backward, popping off the tail (a la JF houle)

The problem is we use switch and fakie interchangeably and they just aren't. In my opinion Fakie is wrong unless you are using your tails to pop while riding switch.

For Rail tricks:
If the leading end of the ski (Nose when regular/Tail when switch) goes over the rail first its a ('basic') grind. (This would be a boardslide skateboarding but we can't really call it that due to the lack of a single board)
If the trailing end of the ski (Tail when regular/ Nose when switch) goes over the rail first then is "lipslide".

Personally I like to use right/left rather than Fs/Bs when talking about skiing, and it works for jumps too.
I agree with EMK's point that a normal (basic) grind needs a name. Then you can describe everything, it would be easy to learn. Ignoring spinning for now you'd get 16 possibilities:

Regular: Left Basic, Right Basic, Left Lip, Right Lip
Nollie+ Left Basic, Right Basic, Left Lip, Right Lip
Switch+ Left Basic, Right Basic, Left Lip, Right Lip
Fakie+ Left Basic, Right Basic, Left Lip, Right Lip

You could then easily add spin etc.. Just my $0.02 but tell me why that isn't logical.

pretzel switch up or 270, 450, etc out is when you spin the opposite way that you came onto the rail.
blindside switch up, 270, 450, etc out is when you spin the way looking up the rail (not seeing your landing)

look at 0:36 he does a pretzel switch up and then at 0:37 he does a blindside switchup

did i not explain that on a frontside you come onto the rail with in front you, like you know, on your front side, and on a back side well i know you can figure it out.

what your saying is, every sport has their own names for tricks. and who cares, if your into that sport you learn the names that way. Its confusing at first but after a while it becomes easy.

your questions arent too hard either, like the "basic grind when you come on to a rail from the right hand side and grind right foot forward" is a lipslide, and converting fakie and switch and all that from skateboarding to skiing has been done as accuratly as it can be but you cant go fakie the same way as you can on a skateboard because skies, you go forwards or backwards, skateboard you can go forwards, backwards, and you can do both of those switch.

That wasn't even the wrong answer i expected! your actually just wrong and its not even a matter of opinion, nothing i talked about could possibly be considered a lip slide.
And no, every applicable sport since skateboarding has tried to take its names for tricks rather than invent their own, except us, now we have mixed them up with the snowboarding translation. Taking trick names from skateboarding was a good idea, it meant if you told someone who bmxed for instance that you did something fakie they would understand or someone who rollerbladed that you did something switch they would know what you were talking about.

I need and adult, I need an adult...

Let's just go through and name all 4 switch up-2out combos their own name (obviously unnatural ones would be the same name, just unnatural, i.e. "unnatural k-fed"), cause blindside switch-up front 2 out has like 3 names and it's too confusing.

So, let's start:
Frontside Switch-Up, Blind 2 out = K-Fed (I think we can all agree on that)
Frontside Switch-Up, Front 2 out =
Blideside Switch-Up, Blind 2 out =
Blindside Switch-Up, Front 2 out = Fed-Ex, Def-K, Britney Bitch (this one needs just one name cause I've heard it called all three of those)

Whoever comes up with the best name for Front sw-up, front 2 and Blind sw-up, blind 2 win - I know they're both pretzel variations, but let's be more creative...haha.

I'm almost positive it means that you just change directions in which way you spin - like front switch-up pretzel front switch up, or front switch-up pretzel front 2 out.

It's kinda confusing which is why it should have a different name, but what you're think of is also a pretzel (in fact 2-pretzel-2 is commonly just called a pretzel).

because if somebody says "I did a sameway switch up,sameway switch up,sameway switch up,sameway switch up,pretzel switch up, sameway switch up, pretzel out" its becomes much harder to visualize then using backside and frontside.

K-fed = fronstide switchup, backside 270 off. super fed has a 450, and mega fed has a 630
Britney = backside switchup, frontisde 270 off
Ray-Fed = backside switchup, backside 270 off, because theyre both blind and ray charles was blind.
Frontside switchup, frontside 270 out doesnt have a name.

Pretzel does not equal frontside, so you cant just use pretzel, and using fronstide and backside is SUPPOSED to make you visualize it. Why wouldnt you want to visualize it?

When you're always blind it's a Ray Charles, when you're all frontside it's called like a crown or something. Front to front is the same as saying front swap, pretzel 270 out.
