Replying to Price of Progression?
Detective brought up a good point in the Superpark 1 thread. At first I disagreed but now I see his viewpoint. Does anyone else thing that the athletes are pushing it too much to take it to the next level? Progression is good but where does it become ridiculous? There are kids out there trying things way beyond their realm of skill. At COC in summer of '00 there was a hit called 'Coach Killer' everyone was wrecking themselves on it and finally some kid who took it above his level and over-rotated a back and had to be air lifted out. Last I heard at the end of the session was that they had to fly him into Seattle because he was swelled up like a balloon and had was in total paralisis. So my question is where does it stop? Someone is going to become a vegetable whether it be on a rail or off a 100 foot table. Progression is all part of the sport but maybe...just maybe too many people are trying to defy human capabilities. It could be similar to what happened in the late 70's early 80's when everyone started to step beyond their limits and wrecking themselves. Leading to lawsuits and closure of terrain...terrain that should not have been closed but too many people didn't know where to draw the line. Anyone?
