If you're doing it for health reasons, fine, but you have to drink and smoke a hell of a lot to have it endanger your health. Moderation is the key. Just because you're straight edge doesn't mean you're the 'designated thinker'. I drink and smoke (in moderation), and I got a 34 on my ACTs, got into UC Berkeley, and have a 4.0 GPA. That's why I resent it when kids talk about how they're straight edge and say it as if it means they're better than me. Frankly, I think it means you have so little self-control that you have to completely give something up or else you'll abuse it.

I drank and partied hardcore for about a year when i was at college. Then after an epic night of mystery drinks it all stopped. I had a good case of alcohol poisioning and was sick for 6 days. 3 of which were spent dry heaving. To say the least it's been 9 months since that night and I have yet to have a drink.
