It could LEAD to a fucked up world.
IMO it's only a matter of time before this shit gets out of control. It's possible to see activity in certain parts of the brain when something occurs, such as a balloon popping. I think this kind of research should stop. It's just going to end up being like the movies and novels about dystopian futures.

Its hard to decide what research in what areas needs to stop. There are positive and negative aspects to all scientific research. This technology could also be used to treat/cure/understand all sorts of mental issues etc.

I understand what you're getting at.
I'm pretty split on the subject, because it has enormous potential to be incredibly beneficial, but on the other hand, it also has enormous potential to be abused. If I had faith in the human race, I'd say go for it, but judging by the past actions of people, it's hard for me to trust that this wouldn't end up being abused.

I think youre thinking of things in too much of a "conspiracy theory" way...

especially because its pretty much impossible to actually tell what people are thinking... this video simply shows what the cat is seeing, not what it is thinking.

Everything can be abused and will be, but i think science is generally only focused on the increasing of knowledge, thats about it.

I know what I'm saying might sound really conspiracy theory like. I really don't believe in conspiracy theories though. I don't think that the government is conspiring to create a technology that can read all of our minds in order to oppress us. I just think that as this technology evolves, it will get closer and closer to being able to detect thoughts and emotions. While science itself is focused on increasing knowledge, that knowledge can be manipulated. Take the nuclear weapons for example.

Don't get me wrong, I think that this is really cool and a great advancement, I just think that as this technology develops it has the potential to be abused.
