Whats up in Euro

Is the Euro newschool scene real similiar to North America?  It seems to me that they were a little slower to get on the newschool scene but have kinda been blowing up lately.  I know they have had guys over there killing it from the birth of the sport, like Jon and Cendide, but with the growth of the pre season comps and coreupt etc. it seems to be growing a lot right now. 

Watching these edits is what got me thinking about this.  Really like the style im seeing, especially from Laurent de Martin.  Lots of smooth spins, sick grabs, and shifties seems to be the trend in these edits.

Anyway, anyone who knows more on the euro scene fill me in.

just my .02 based on what i saw in austria: lot of kids are getting stronger and pushing hard, i think the scene up there will be huge in a couple of years, such a great commitment and passion
i guess it will follow the path of the scandinavian's one, which is already getting a broad recognition (just look at KOS top 20 list)

The scene in the UK seems to be getting way better, especially new school skiing, the indoor real snow slopes routinely put on freestyle nights which have got a lot of kids in to the sport. I guess none of them have really made a huge impact worldwide, though, but Paddy Graham and James Woods do well in euro comps and also the freeze festival in london last weekend.

It'll never reach the popularity you guys enjoy in the states simply because there are no mountains and people therefore aren't brought up in towns and cities where skiing is part of the lifestyle due to the place's location. That said, my family were comfortable enough to afford ski trips so i've been going since i was 5 and done two seasons in canada and NZ and i'm pretty much as good as i possibly could be off the back of that. Recently got my gf into it but really don't know many people who care for skiing let alone new school stuff which is kinda disappointing but understandable at the same time.

The university freestyle scene is getting bigger and bigger too with inter-uni competitions now becoming more prestigious and difficult. Although the female-scene seems to be lagging a bit which is kinda shit.

I reckon in 5 years you'll have as many big Euro pros as North America pros.

yeah the uni scene is pretty hot on freestyle/newschool stuff. i have just joined my uni team so hope to go to some comps soon (but the standard is pretty high so i need a little more practice!)

i terms of newschool stuff - it seems that most people from Britain who ski; ski just for the love of skiing, while in other european countries - like france - most people just go skiing just because it is a holiday. there is a lot of talk about how bad the East-Coast has it, and how kids from there still try to shread - in England where it only snows about 4 days a year, kids here make much more of what you have - be it dryslopes, snowflex, indoor, summer set ups (or all year round set ups for me!) and those couple of weeks that you may get a year on the real shit. just my 2 cents.
