Egg drop designs (physics)

My physics class is doing an egg drop lab in which we are going to make things to keep eggs from breaking. The thing surrounding the egg to protect it has to be smaller than 8"x8"x8" so what are some good materials/ good containers to use? is a glad tub or whatever a good thing to have the egg and whatever in?

I did that in 5th grade and all we got to use was paper and straws, and mine didn't break!

well i would work from the inside out
first you need to build some sort of protection around the egg. Think of an Arc Bridge, how stress on the bridge gets trasfered. you need to do something like that around the egg with some padding in between. this will absorb all the stress and keep it away from the egg. then around that, i suggest you just pad the fuck out of it

i had to do it with a half sheet of standard printer paper and 12 inches of tape. got it done. the key is to design a good parachute but it sounds like you guys are doing it different.

About 40 feet. It has to be small, so no parachutes.

When I did this we filled a nalgene bottle with peanut butter and put the egg in the middle. indestructible

We just had to do that in college, fuck... granted I am taking product design. Anyways here's a picture of mine. Oh yeah and we were only allowed to use bristol board.

The best girl made this crazy nest out of bristol and it just bounced and her eggs were fine.

i remember doing this in like grade 5, i just suspended the egg with elastics inside a cube frame...not the most practical thing, but it got the job done

I put one inside of a nerf football and made a frame out of straws and Popsicle sticks on the outside. It worked pretty well too from 30 feet

we did the egg drop and the contraption needed to do a vertical 180

our grade didnt depend on the egg surviving, that was extra credit

if you were thinking suspend an egg in jello in a gallon jug, it wont work

i literally just watched an episode of junkyard wars about this. they had to build a rocket that then released the egg, and then it had to land safely

ha 7th grade for me we had a limit of 1 12" by 12" piece of paper, 2   1" pieces of tape and unlimited glue and that was it and mine survived a 18 foot drop to cement.
