This years crop of snowboard videos

so, I have now seen three snowboard videos this season (absinthe, sandbox, and alterna), and all of them have, for the most part, disappointed me. For close to a decade now I have been under the thinking that snowboard videos have been better than their skiing counter parts. The music, editing, filming, locations, and riding have been superior.
As for this year... I don't know if it is because of "That's It, That's All" from last year, or what, but this years snowboard videos haven't really done it for me. I will use the Alterna Action video that I watched last night for example. I'd say about 80% of the video was backcountry booters around the Coast Mountains of BC... with the riders throwing 3's, 5's, 7's, the odd 9... most of them upright spins. Now, that kind of riding would have been absolutely amazing and mind blowing 5 years ago.
Although I haven't seen any of this years ski videos, I think that this might be the first time that they trump snowboard videos. Can't say I ever saw that one coming.
Your thoughts?

alterna and sandbox are not top-tier companies. i would put sandbox at C-level. Alterna is a B level company, but maybe not anymore, i haven't seen one of their vids in a while. and neverland was next level. it didn't have as much ak shots as usual, however. the forum vid, nice try, not bad, and get real are all killer. i haven't seen videograss or any ski vids to compare them with though.

Think Thank and the Burton movie are both pretty good (in different ways).

I thought Absinthe had their usual flair going on, if you like their style (which I do) Neverland is another good one- despite the soundtrack being hit-or-miss. The opening powder part in Japan with Muller will get me stoked to ride all winter, you don't need helis and dub corks for that. And it had some pretty raw jib stuff too. Forum Forever was another standout too, and I've heard the same about The B as well, gotta check that one out.

My faves so far are Hard to Earn, Cool Story and Videograss. I've seen a couple of the ones you mentioned and wasn't that impressed either. Neverland was good but I prefered the more creative, street sort of films.

yea, i agree that i have to re-watch neverland... I love that kind of riding, it's what I do on skis... playing on cliffs and pillows in the trees... but i don't know why, but it seams to be missing something... i think it's just 'cause they've mad some absolutely amazing videos in the past, it's hard to recreate Optimistic, Pop, Futureproof, Vivid... the best movies ever made for their time, it's what I expect when watching an Absinthe video. I guess as far as Absinthe goes, my expectations are just too high. As I said, I am going to re-watch it (probably this evening) and try to reform my opinion.

I agree! But yeah, rewatch Neverland, it grows on you just like many of their previous timeless movies have done in the past. And yes..amazing riding in Black Winter as well.

I was a huge fan of the MDP movies. In my opinion they blew most snowboard flicks outta the water.
