Pretty big enthusiast right here.  I have an 02 WRX with a 2009 STi Shortblock swap.  In the spring hopefully I will be at about 350 whp.  Just split my old shortblock (the original from the 02) and will be rebuilding it for hopefully a GC8 swap in the future.

lol no idea what chassis I have (GH?). i got a black 08 wrx sedan though pretty much stock cept for perrin dp, catback, cobb AP, and some whiteline and kartboy bushings here and there. hoping to save enough to do some real work to it next summer

I would consider myself a fan though. its a lot of fun to drive and such a sleeper, especially where I live. Nobody understands how quick these things are.

You should sell the AP and buy a Tactrix cable with what you get for it and buy some parts with the remainder.  You can then opensource tune your ECU and you will get much better gains than from the Cobb AP which has maps that are very conservatively set up and aren't really that great.

They aren't necessarily safe.  It is basically one blanket tune for all WRX/STi's of that type and it is so conservative because it has to fit all of them.  However, ever engine/car is different so an Opensource tune that is specific to the vehicle can be much safer because it can fully correct for knock and all those things that the Cobb can't do as well.  Thus, the Opensource is safer and also allows you to run a more aggressive tune for more power.

haha definitely not. I won't even mess with that. I let PIA do my tune on the Accessport. OTS Cobb maps have HUGE safety margins built in. Protunes ftw.

True...but thats why you have someone else tune it or protune and a Cobb isn't any better than opensource at all, there aren't huge safety measures built in or crap like that.  Why waste your money?  Even opensource protune is a few hundred cheaper than Cobb protune so you come out ahead.

SubySteeze what supporting mods do you have?  What size injectors are you running?

09 dark grey metallic impreza wagon. i used to have a 98 dark green legacy gt wagon. nothing added on yet except for a yakima rack to carry my skis, bikes, and surfboards. i'd like to get a nicer set of wheels and then throw some snow tires on the stock ones, as well as get an sti short shifter on a little better suspension setup, but that's all gonna have to wait for a little while. i spent too much money on ski gear already.

i am, and its the best car i could ever want. i have a 2.5 (same as sti) and the same turbo as the wrx (for now) and i dont get second looks from cops!!!

400 awhp?  No way man, you might be able to hit that on a realllly nice FP green, but not without other mods.  You aren't running a Walbro or bigger injectors.  You know you will need at least 850CC injectors for that, right?

And there is no way you are making 250 whp on a TD04 at 16.1 psi of boost.  That is pretty much a stage 2 tune which is not 250whp on a TD04.  Maybe if you were running 22 psi but not at 16.1

well yeah, i KNOW i need other mods. i didn't feel like making a list. i could make almost 500awhp on a fp if i wanted, i would have to build my moter, which i dont want to do. i need a fuel pump and have to do about 800cc's

and i know im making over 250whp. i have a stage 2 tune. no way in well i could put 22psi through a TD04 without it taking a shit.

Actually you can, a lot of people run their TD04's pretty hard.  Stage 2 at 16.1 psi is not 250 awp, sorry to disappoint you.  Even with a protune it isn't.  If you are going for 400 awp, you need bigger than 800cc's.

I should say one of the main reasons you are lower than the 250 whp on a Stage II tune is because you are running the TD04 on an EJ257. The added displacement means your TD04 is falling flat on its face pretty much.

ummm... no.  ive never once heard of anyone putting more then 18, 19 at most through a TD04.
i havn't been to the dyno but i know for a fact that stage 2 makes about 250whp

and my friend has a 406whp sti off the dyno. 716cc injectors

Well you can, do some more research.  You won't net much gains but people do it.  A lot of people run 19-20 no problem though.  And no you are wrong on the Stage 2 sorry.  Think about it this way, a stage 2 in a WRX might make it to 250whp, but not with the STi longblock in a Forester.  The weight and the displacement cause a drop in your high end hp because of the volume to fill and the TD04 not being able to push enough air.  You have massive low end torque in comparison to the 2.0L but not the HP high end where you would be making the 250.  Trust me, I have done a lot of research on this because I have an STi shortblock in my WRX.  Stage 2 will not get you to 250whp in a Forester with the STi block without something more than a TD04.

As for your friend, if he is making 406 whp then he is probably around 525 at the crank and that is not safe at all on 716cc injectors.  I don't know who tuned him but his IDC% must be way higher than the recommended 80% and he is asking for trouble.

why cheap out and go smaller injectors? just sack up and go 1000's dual inline 255's, 35R, q16 race gas. and dont say "LOLERZ YOU CANT DO THAT WITHOUT SUPPORTING MODS!" i know, im just too lazy to list a grocery list of parts that i cant afford right now.

and today i was pulling out of school and i saw my principal get in the same sea foam green 01 outback as me. except mines the limited so its a standard which makes me about 100 times more badass.

I'm running an STi TMIC, Walbro fuel pump, Deatschwerks 650cc injectors, Agency Power up-pipe, Maddad Whisper TBE w/single cat, and some coilovers to keep it under control.

The Accessport came with the car, and I trust the shop that did the tuning, and they tune using the Accessport. PIA doesn't even have a web-page, and they are always busy.
