The following is not correct in any way and im not responsible for any messed up skis/accidents ....
this is "a" way to centermount skis for urban, usually i would not suggest centermounting because most skis aren't designed to be centered...
but this works for urban/garbage skis
here we go:
since your ski is (probably) asymmetrical, don't just measure the length and take the middle...
the whole point of center mounting rail/urban skis is to balance out your swing.
The only skis that are balanced in geometric center are symmetrical or almost symmetrical skis...
so what you do is quite simple, balance your ski on something, this can go from your finger to a screwdriver, washingline, the back of a seat, whatever....
What you're looking for is the point where when you support your ski there its completely leveled and in balance....
mark that spot with a marker, then take your bindings + boot
present the boot inside the bindings and line that shit up so the center-mark of your boot (small dash or arrow on the shell of your boot, somewhere in the middle underfoot) lines up with your balance point,
now it gets tricky, make sure your bindings are perfectly positioned (parallel to the ski) then take a marker or screwdriver and push through the screw-holes in your bindings to make small indentations/marks on your topsheet (this can also be done using a stencil or jig but for urban skis you just want te get the job done and so far it worked this way for 3 pair of my skis, no ripped out bindings yet !
Now you remove your bindings and boot and you should be left with like 8 or more marks/indentations on your topsheet....
now comes the tricky part, you're best off with a "column drill"
(??? dont know what correct english word is; its a drill thats fixed in the vertical position and can be raised/lowered very precisely with a wheel/lever)
you drill on the marks you've made, how deep? measure your screws and drill screw length + 1 mm deep
what size of drill? you take the inside diameter of your screw (between the threads) and take -1mm drill...
so when you've drilled the holes, screw your binding on and go shred some rails!
if you do happen to drill through the base of your ski: no problem, just take a ptex candle and fill it up; urban skis will endure a lot worse than a clean thru 'n thru ...
Enjoy shredding urban !
