Finally watched L1P Refresh and realized...

I dunno man.  Shanghai Six was incredible, however, the level of riding in refresh is unreal.  I like both very much but i think Refresh takes it IMO

Maybe the level of riding yes... but the cinematography, soundtrack, art direction, editing, flow and perhaps innovation i'd give it to S6.

Every year they top the year before somehow. Topping Turbo i thought would be impossible but Refresh did that !

what I've found over the many years I've been buying ski movies is, there is always that one that really impacted you at the right time of your skiing and opened your eyes to just what is possible on skis.

For me it was when I was just getting into the whole freeskiing thing and I had Propaganda and Strike Three. I must have watched each of them 100+ times. Even thought the movies and tricks within the movie get better every year, nothing will ever come close to either of them.

I will still buy all the new movies this year to add to my collection, but I doubt my stoke will be as high as it used to be like 4-5 years ago. I find it just gets repetitive after awhile.

sorry don't mean to be debbie downer here, just sayin'.

I watched Shanghi Six last night, and Refresh is a far better movie.

It's got Warren in it too, how could can that be beat?

Yes.

For me it was Long Story Short. It came out a year or so after I had started to ski and it simply blew my mind. I watched it over and over and over. The first day I got it in the mail I think I watched it 4 times. I personally think it is one of the best movies ever, but like you said, it's all opinion on how it affected you.

Yea, even though I thikn Refresh is the best one to date, I have a huge place in my heart for Long Story Short because it was the one movie that got me heavily into the scene.

Haha, this is funny reading.

That movie for me was probably Propaganda or Ski Movie. RSN would show abridged ski movies and I would tape them (yea on to VHS) and watch them over and over again. Then a friend of mine bought the DVD and let me tape over the RSN recording onto my VHS. I still have those kicking around somewhere. they are so bad you can hardly read the rider names.

Refresh was amazing, but Shanghai six hit pretty hard.

My thoughts exactly...it's when you're most impressionable that the movies have a big effect, and nothing can change that. For me it was definitely 13 and The Game for skiing, and The Resistance for snowboarding.

Long Story Short is still my favorite. To be honest I (me, no one else) thought the soundtrack was lacking a lot this year. Still loved the movie! I find myself skipping songs when listening to them on the pod.

I hear everyone saying it's all about what film hit you the hardest but....

This is gonna be my 21st year skiing (im 24) and i've been into freestyle and ski vids pretty much the whole time. My game changer was probably 13.

I have a whole collection of home VCR recordings that I taped off of tv shows like 16mm and xgames or anything showcasing skiing. 13 was an absolute game changer for me. I still consider Propaganda one of the 'newer' ski vids... Then I realize it's like 8 years old. I still wish JF would make another comeback, I wish I could watch all the riders I did back in those days. Forward hit me pretty hard as well because there are a lot of hometown shots.

But aside from that I really do think S6 is Level 1's best video and not just because it was the one that hit me the hardest. I would have to give that honor to 13, propaganda, ski movie 2,  forward or 1242.

I just think the style of S6 has yet to be topped....

I also wasn't a fan of this years soundtrack and perhaps that's what was lacking to put it over the top for me.

I remember way back when I was in seventh grade there used to be ski movies on fuelTV on friday nights during insane cinema. My friends would come over after the middle school dance. we would watch fuel and sesh a skateboard rail in my basement and just had fun all of the time before waking up the next day for my mom to drive us uup to the hill. That was the first time I saw happy dayz and propoganda. There probably were a lot more movies but I don't remember there names. I snowboarded then and I still though they were amazing.

This was my introduction to ski movies. For me, REALTIME has the best soundtrack, and flow, and some of the sickest, cleanest, urban shots.

refresh was good, there was definatly a ton of progression with urban but its still no shanghai six.  S6 was put together so much better, it all flowed perfect, and the atheletes were way more fun to watch. better BC jumps and skiing, park shoots were cooler. only thing that was better was the urban and delorme, the rest was just not half as good.

what the hell happened to steele spence, travis redd, craig coker, symms, dan marion, austin ramaley, alex balsen, tim russell, mike clark, JD zicat, loic collomb-patton, etc...? those guys were the best! they may not have had the tech skill of some of the newer riders, but they were more fun to watch and brought more variety.

  IMO vanular, hornbeck, wiley, delorme, stephen, rainville, wallisch, duncan, bibby, wesson and casabon are the only ones who make it a good movie, the rest just make it look like another jiberish edit, they need to be replaced with level 1's old stars and  they could make the sickest movie ever.

as a youngster i saw ski movie, ski movie 2, and something about mcconkey... then happened to catch Second Generation on RSN and was just blown away (raw, shitty, east coast) i loved it

refresh was incredible and may be a better movie, but shanghai six has been my favorite since i first watched it. ive seen it so many times and it gets me so pumped for skiing. craig cokers segment is amazing.

Yeah I can't tell you how many times I've watched Hot Lunch... even though it may not be the craziest movie ever, there's something about it that really clicked with me, I think that kind of riding is gonna become a lot more popular in the next few years, it'd be cool to see more movies like that.

Freedom of speech. I kind of thought EDIAS was better. No hating, LOVED refresh but I got bored sometimes. I dont know why but I just didnt feel the love for skiing. That is the thing I kinda LOVE about Slamina! In my opinion, you could see the whole 4bi9 team just loved skiing.

But yeah, all segments of Refresh were dope and the "paradise" segment was SOOO GOOOD in my opinion.
