Top 5 Skiers All Around

I'm getting hated on super hard over at TGR for basically telling them they're all delusional in making their lists of the top "all around" skiers, ie skiers who can do everything... Curious to see if Newschoolers is equally out to lunch in their perspective on these matters. Who is at the top of the sport right now when you consider all aspects of it in your opinion?

Well there are a lot of older hags over there with out a doubt, but for the most part the people that are the "core" skiers with out a doubt will recognize that list that you quoted. But there are some people that put Doug Coombs, Doug Coombs, Doug Coombs......its kinda the same way when kids say tom wallisch or hornbeck, granted all the above stated are great skiers not just all around skiers.

I don't think you can list Hjorleifson with Shane and Eric Roner.  Hjorleifson was a great park skier a few years ago.  Not x-games medal level, but you could film him in the park and get great shots.  Watch his segment inYearbook(MSP);  it is very short, but you see him destroying a couple of big mountain lines and then going into the park and spinning 900's both ways.  In the last couple of years we have not seen park footage from him, but that does not mean he cannot still slay the park.  I think he does deserve credit as an all-around guy.  I'm not saying he needs to be on everyone's list, just that he does not belong in the same league as Roner and Shane, who are clearly big mountain only at this point.

Seriously, is Jon any better of a big mountain skier the Hoji a park skier?  I think that is debatable.  I am not saying Jon can't ski big mountain, he definitely can, but he is not one of the best at it.  I think Hoji in the park and Jon in big mountains are pretty similar.

Also, some of the people who list Shane probably see it as a lifetime achievement award.  He might not have been among the best in the many disciplines near the end, but in his prime:

                             He was arguably the best big mountain skier in the world, with great video parts
                             and more big mountain contest wins than just about anyone.

                             He was an x-games level competitior on skier-x and big air.  Granted, he only
                             competed on those disciplines at the beginning, but it was still impressive.

                             He had been a professional mogul skier

                            Before that he also had a strong racing background.

That is a very diverse set of accomplishments.  My guess is many of the people who listed him had that in mind.

If we are talking about lifetime stuff, Jonny Moseley also deserves a mention.  There was a time when he was:

Arguably the best park skier

A pioneer who had won an Olympic gold

One of the top big mountain guys out there.

Most of the people listed have weaknesses.  They are usually either at the top of the park game, and great at big mounatin, or at the top of the big mountain game and great at park.  But no one is really at the top of both disciplines.  Moseley was around 2000, and he also dominated changed olympic mogul skiing.

Suzanne Graham is the best girl skier. If she skied park, she could be the best at that too.
Ingrid is close.

Ashley Batts is the best girl park skier, not necessarily because she has the most tricks, but because she actually looks stylish doing them, not like most girls who look like super stiff and awkward whenever they do anything.

Grete is probably the best mix of park and BC.

I am sorry but this is one of the dumbest posts of all time.  Seth can frequently be seen shredding Crested Butte, if you can catch him.  I have taken many laps with him and I have never seen anyone shred in bounds harder or faster.  Seth shows true love for the sport and skis loveland and a-bay super early like every other skiing fiend.  He does park laps with basic tricks, not the ultimate park skier, but absolutely near the top of best all around skiers.

These lists are fucking retarded. Seth is one of my favorite skiers, but is not one of the top 5 all around skiers. Jesus Christ, when have you ever seen Seth slay an urban rail. And why the fuck is Tom Wallisch on anyone's list? Has he ever skied a legit big mountain line in his life? Fuck no. Use your heads, kids.

^Yeah chad, good call, I'm definitely crying about hate on the internet, it's just not what I'm used to having only worked for the hate capital of the universe in Newschoolers for years and years.

I made this thread to see how many NS kids would actually make a list comprised of B-Dog, Wallisch and Harlaut, being completely oblivious to big lines or just classifying them as less important than park and urban, just as the TGR dudes basically look on park and urban as non-existent or unimportant. So far, on the whole, lists in this thread have been more or less reasonable.

Not in any particular order and I think that like most of these lists mine has a bias towards my favorite skiers to watch.  It is too damn hard to pick the BEST 5.  I'd say that these are some of my favorite 5.  I'll be the first to say that I can't judge the BEST 5

So urban rail skill is now considered skiing skill?  Im sure if he didnt care about falling on concrete he would be nasty at it.  not too mention isnt he like 35?  The first urbans werent done untill like 2001.  Thats like saying Dan treadway is not an "overall" good skier because he never hit rails

Sorry to double up, but wow...I think the question was based on "all around"...a bit misguided with Bode, the norwegians, Wilson and Sho..Darren, Seth, J.T. and even Shane(R.I.P he's amazing and a huge part of our sport, but just not top 5 at all) are a stretch. i can see where the others are comin from, but there's no Candide, so..fuck you

yeah... I've never heard of Collin Collins so i watched those videos w/ an open mind but I wasn't really impressed by those videos at all. definitely shouldn't be all over everyone's top 5.


and to whoever said McConkey neve skied park, you are sooo wrong. he could throw w/ some of the best, he just specialized in big mtn so that's all you ever see published.
