Pvc spacing on backyard rails?

I might make two 10 foot rails for my backyard to use in winter and then summer, and I am wondering if I should use the same design as I used for my 14 foot rail up north.  My rail up north it is probably 6-7 inches wide with a pvc pipe on either side of the rail.  Here is a pic.  My question is does have only 2 pvc pipes instead of covering the whole wood surface area make a difference while sliding?  Does more pvc pipes give you better friction/grip or anything? thanks

i have 3 1 inch pvc pipes like a half an inch or an inch apart i can't remember. works like a charm

not to thread jack but i have a 3 ft wide box and we used white board for the top which worked like poop. im considering using pvc all the way across. size i should use?

sketchyD- smaller diameter pipes will be harder to work with and harder to break, bigger pipes will be easier to work with and easier to break.

Cost should work out approximately equal, probably a bit more for the smaller tubes


But there's no point in going below 3/4 inch OD (outside diameter)

this or go huge and get 6inch(or so not sure on actual size) or so pipes. i went huge on two rails i built this summer and they've been working great. i wasn't too happy with two rails i built two years ago with two 3 inch. so i'd say go huge or go small

I have a pvc box, uhh i used 3 2 inch diameter pipes and paced em 1 inch apart, it works very nicley.

place it like you did on your other rail...if that works i would not change the system :)
hey guys...i do have a pvc problem too and didnt wanted to creat a own thread...so sorry "midwestjibsksi" guy :)
so heres my problem : 2 days ago i bought a 2 m pvc pipe...it is huge :D ok so far so hood i was so stoked on it ...i just hit it for a lil backyard session... i pulled out the lil piece of astro turf i own and start shreding this pipe...but after 30 min or so i was doing a 270 pretzel out and i tried to tap the pipe with the nose of the ski...but than it happend ...it cracked and a big piece broke out... what shall i do now ? just fix it with glue ore shall i go claimin' and tryin' to get a new one...? help me out

for mine i just took 3 very thin pvc pipes and put them all next to eachother so it turned out like a bar. works great

i went to lowes today to look at stuff for the top of my box and i saw whiteboard stuff and pvc trim with a flat backside so its like on big pvc pipe in a way. i was wonder what slides better whiteboard or the pvc stuff

i havent used smaller pvc pipes - i have used two orange sewage pipes (if you know what i mean...) works like a firework factory on fire. illage.

just go pvc all the way across. thats what i did and it feels real solid. you don't even have to go to the hardware store. just go to construction sites or dumpsters or new housing developments. rails made for free
