Why? Yea it may have sounded a bit over the top but the actual message they're trying to convey is pretty true; That the gov't is taking the whole issue way beyond just whether or not gays should be able to marry. It doesn't even seem like that's what the issue is about anymore

I didn't lower it. I thought you had a relatively valid point that was relevant to OTHER STATES.

Maine was just marriage, and a simple change to sex ed courses that included gay families. THAT WAS IT. And it's nothing to be ashamed of for asking that the rest of the stuff included in these things be left out. I don't care either way if churches don't want to marry gays, but the option should be there to get the benefits and the title and just the peace of mind knowing you just got married.

But now NOM wants to be teaching Conversion Therapy in Public schools. How do you feel about that? How do you feel about the 4.5 million dollars spent to repeal a law that did nothing more than allow people to marry? Or how about that NOM used sleazy fearmongering to get their way with other ad campaigns like this:

First of all, I don't believe marriage equality falls under the aegis of the government, gay or straight. Taking the libertarian viewpoint, people should be allowed to marry whomever they please.

With that said, I'm confident if the gay marriage issue where brought to a popular vote in every state, it would be similarly defeated by the people everywhere. It happened in Cali, it happened in Maine. Massachusetts won't allow the issue to be brought up for popular vote, and I don't think any other New England state besides Maine would either. I don't agree with gay marriage, per say, but I do believe in equality. Though I may not like it, people should be entitled to equal marriage rights.

this is exactly how i feel, while i may not think it is right i believe that people are entitled to do whatever they want to. I really cant understand who voted this down in maine; everyone here is for the most part liberal and open to it, and the early polls showed that no on 1 had a big lead. At least we passed yes on 5 (medicinal marijuana)

it has nothing to do with separation of church and state if the people voted against it, that might mean that the majority of people are religious, but it still boils down to the majority of people not wanting it to be legalized

I can't believe that commercial actually aired, that's unbelievable.
This country is just still in the dark ages.  We are the third world.  How can people be that fucking stupid to buy into that.  Pretty soon the government and other big political organizations (liberal and conservative) are going to have a monopoly on thought, people just can't fucking think for themselves anymore.  Nobody question anything, just mindless slaves.

There is one thing that the fight for gay marriage has brought up. There are groups like NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) that say them wanting to have sex with little boys is a genetic thing like being homosexual and that they should be allowed to be married to a 9 year old. Don't get me wrong, I am all for gay marriage, but when it gets passed it starts bringing out nutjobs like the members of NAMBLA.

100% for gay marriage, equal rights, and everything like that but this is just a thought...


Why can't a dude have 2 wives?  Or marry 1 dude and one chick?  Why does marriage have to be between 2 people?  Marriage is just a made of thing anyway who the fuck cares.  It obviously has no importance anymore because half of all marriages end in divorce.  Which is pretty good considering the other 50% in in death.

I think we should just get rid of the whole thing and give anyone who lives together equal rights to everything.

whats to stop you from getting a bunch of people insured for cheap by marrying them lol. i agree that it doesnt really matter but that part would be kinda weird.

Personally, it always weirds me out a little bit when I see a gay couple in public......"well those two must be really good friend......oh now they're kissing..." However, just because I'M not 100% comfortable with it doesn't mean it should be illegal. That's both ignorant and selfish. What are the ultra-conservative "Christians" missing about this?
