What you can say is the nationalization spur after 9/11. That is a very strong point as we felt very weak as a country and war often times is the outlet for that weakness. Look at how drastically Pearl Harbor changed American opinion of WWII. FDR tried everything but the American people wouldn't sway to fight a war. Then we were attacked and it legitimized the war to the people. That's an important point. There were underlying and sometimes outfront implications of Saddam having ties with Al Qaeda and that was a gutwrenchingly touchy subject. Emotions definitely played a pull in it.
