for those of you who do not listen to house, electro or have never been to a club, Steve "Vodka" Aoki is a Japanese American dude who is basically the worlds biggest hipster and a world class DJ. this being said, he can really kill a set when hes not on the floor passed out. anyway! i saw him and Diplo here in S'pore at Zouk and me and Aoki had a moment during his traditional ritual of distributing vodka to people in the front by pouring it into their mouths.

he first spilled on my shirt, a sleeveless Dale Earnheardt gem i bought at an Idaho Wal-Mart. then came back a second time, and said, "sorry man, he was a legend" and laughed while giving me a comforting couple of gulps. i emailed him a whle ago to see if he remembered me, and while most artists will never write you back the man himself sent me an email basically saying yo and saying i have a few Dim Mak records t-shirts on the way. stoked.

haha word, im going to Benassi in about 20 FUCKING DAYS AND IM SO PSYCHED ABOUT IT. i called it and it came true. pretty rad. sad thing is im missing Beetroots play fucking New Years Eve which is gonna be insane but i will be skiing back home so i guess its alright.

you mix at all? i play some smaller gigs at some clubs round here.

Ummm not, but to be honest i would love too. I got Virtual DJ Pro and i love jsut fooling around in it. Im sure i could learn to do mixes.

Have you seen benassi live? Its a huge dissapointment, hes always too drunk/rolling/high to keep an even OK mix going

dude, my friend has hosted the beetroots afterparty in denver twice now, so rowdy. and partying with aoki is probably the most outrageous time ever. its sick that he makes his own living and career instead of tapping into the benihana fortune.

haha thats pretty sick. He definitely knows how to treat his fans from what I've seen... saw him with MSTRKRFT this summer and imo, he got the crowd waay more pumped than JFK did.

thats cuz jfk is a drunk. when I saw them a few months ago, he was passed out behind the booth for all of the opening DJs, and the bouncer had to shake him awake before their set could start. still, dim mak is a label that is blown up and taking over the dance scene. goodbye shitty asian trance DJs, hello awesome.

Thats true, but the same thing can be said for Aoki. The guy is notorious for doing hard drugs and getting wasted when he mixes, which gives him alot of bad publicity. That being said, I dont mind what they do as long as they keep killin it

does anyone here actually spin? just a question. not trying to be the im cooler than you guys, guy. i use an Omni control from Numark and Tractor. you can hate, but its the best system out there. period. i also have an 16 pad i use for samples.

Yeah went to an aoki concert a couple weeks ago in montreal, went backstage, shook the man's hand, and saw his troupe of weirdass hipster gangsters and druggie hotties. Spins SUCH a good set. Amazing DJ. Also saw bloody beetroots. EVEN MORE EPIC.

IF YOU EVER HAVE THE CHANCE, GO TO BLOODY BEETROOTS NO MATTER THE COST

Yeah I spin as well. 800s with either CDs or Serato depending on if I'm playing short or long respectively.

That's awesome that he's down to earth despite the success. I've seen him twice now and had an amazing time both times. He got me with champagne when I saw him last though, so maybe his booking fee's gone up.

stoked I guess but that kinda sounds a little kiss arse, no hate or anything but to email a guy asking if he remembers you, he obviously felt like he was pressured to pay you a few shirts back.

But the general idea that you heard back from Aoki was dope.

My mate got an email from Kanyes mate, cant remember his name exactly saying he would get behind any plans they had on making a clothing line.

Yee, I use a total control (same as omni without the soundcard) m-audi soundcard with torq, and vinyl tables ( i like the feel/sound more )
