im doing a lab report and i need to find how many atoms of iron and copper were produced in the experiment. this is the data:

the number of iron produced : 0.0135 moles
number of copper produced: 0.015 moles

NOW HOW WOULD I BE ABLE TO FIND HOW MANY ATOMS PRODUCED????

what would i multiply the results by? i know its some number on the periodic table but which one?

multiply it by 6.02 x 10^28 (debrogli's number). That's how many atoms are in a mole.

k this is basic stoichometry (sp) havent done it for a year but here goes.

multiply the moles of each element by the atomic mass of that element divided by 1 mole

moles of element * (mass of element/1 mole) the moles cancel out and you are left with the mass.

yay or nay. i dont really remember

FALSE. multiply by 6.022 * 10^23 (avogadros number). this is the number of atoms in a mole.

**************OK ONE MORE QUESTION***************

THIS IS THE QUESTION I HAVE: USE THE AVERAGE FROM QUESTION NUMBER TWO TO MAKE THE FOLLOWING CALCULATION(THE NUMBERS ARE .0135moles and .015moles)' supppose you wanted to produce 1.00000kg of copper by this process(putting two nails into a copper chloride solution and copper is the solution. .0135moles is iron and .015 is the copper produced).calculate the mass of iron that would be dissolved in order to accomplish this.

^ if that doesnt give enough info tell me. im just trying to get this done quick.

it sounds like a limiting reactant equation.
do you know how to do that?
i cant do this on the computer, i can do it on paper... but thats to much effort

nah, i dont know how to do that. but you know what. its all good. ill talk to my teacher tomorrow. yea, AP chem is a pain in the ass. we have to do 2 labs a week. ive been on my computer writing up two lab reports for 5 hours.

We need a chemical formula to work with here.
Find the limiting reactant. (It's likely iron, because it asks you how much iron it will take)
Find the ratio of iron to the separate reactants (found in the chemical equation)
Find out how many moles of copper are in 1kg.
Use the molar ratio to find out how many moles of iron are needed to produce it.
Multiply the number of moles you just found by iron's molar mass.
Feel smart.

If you post the chemical equation I could tell you exactly what to do, but I'm probably going to go study for my physics midterm.

So far 1st year chem. (for engineering) has been ok. I got 88% on my midterm too! (wouldn't be able to guess that after seeing my 1st post in here eh?)

i actually love AP chem
my teacher is a bro, and he won best teacher award (look him up, Richard Goodman)
the curve in our class is so good that you cannot get less then a 3.0 (out or 4.0 of course), and im on track for a 4.0 (with the AP added it comes out to a 4.4 total grade in that class).
but in no way is our class stupid. 17 kids out of 23 got 5's on the ap test last year, like the rest got 4s
