Jail Breaking iPod Touches

I'm thinking of jail breaking my iPod Touch.  What are the advantages? What are the disadvantages/ horror stories and whats the best way to do it?

you can get backgrounds and custom icons

it voids your warranty but if you have a problem you can restore it.
if you can't reverse it, you're pretty much fucked

i tried jail braking my 16g and bricked it. eventually got it fixed after lots and lots of searching on the net, now i just have it back to normal.

i jail broke mine for the same reason about 2 months ago. i couldnt get pokemon on there, so i dont think its that great

It's cool 'til you show all your friends, then about that time it will shit the bed and your warranty is void and you can't fix it, then your ficked :[

i used winpwn for mine.
my ipod was jailbroken for a good year and a half, i restored it about a month ago. its sick though, deff worth it

anything you do can just be restored to default. I jailbroke mine and it's really sick. Free apps and pokemon

how'd you get pokemon? ive been wanting since i jailbroke mine

and to the OP - depending on what firmware you have, you have to use different methods, I used redsn0w, but i believe if you have 3.0+ you need to use yellowsn0w.

oh and if you brick it, just restore it in itunes. i had to do that like 3 times because i wasn't using the right program. it takes maybe 30 min

Its really easy! I have jailbroken my own ipod and helped several friends jailbreak theirs and its never gone wrong! I swear its safe and you can just restore it if something does go wrong.

No problems at all. You can also get Cydia, then get Installous, then you can get ANY app in the entire app store for FREE.

it's pretty sweet until you get greedy and start downloading everything. i wouldn't recommend doing it for an 8 gig. I did and it took up all the memory and the battery life was a half hour, tops.

Hey, I have my ipod jailbroken.. and at first, I was like wtf is the point in doing this, the only thing it does it let you have cool backrounds/icons.

But you can get a program call installus (forget how to spell it) and it lets search for an app, and it sends you to a link and you can download it for free. And yes, this is against apple's rules or w.e, and im pretty sure installus is illegal, but thats why you would jailbreak your ipod. Everyone uses installus and its almost impossible to get caught, so its legit.

Example: so I have an app called beatmaker, a $20 app, and I got it for free from installus.

So after you jailbreak it, you get a progamm called cydia, its where you download the backrounds, and all the extra stuff, you cant get apps off of it, so thats why you get installous, heres how to jailbreak your ipod/get installous.

it is easier to get a virus with a jail broken ipod....so if that happens, you have no warranty

to all those who insist that jailbreaking voids your warranty.. shut the fuck up. i know way more than you about jailbreaking, i even made my own theme son- https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/447432/  but seriously. if you fuck up your ipod/phone jailbreaking it, simply plug it into the computer and restore it. a retard could accomplish this, its not hard. and if you have any questions, ask me, im confident ill be able to provide you an answer. and to play POKEMON on your ipod, you need to install gpSPhone, and simply upload roms to var/mobile/media/gpSPone/ROMS. bingo bango bungo nigga.
