Short poles, they are the best

honestly. ive been riding with poles that are "too small" by traditional standards for the last 3 years now and no one thing has affected my skiing more. i dont just use them in the park, but when im groomer shredding, bump slaying from time to time and when im riding pow. they are big enough to counterbalance, big enough to pole plant in the bumps if you must and they dont get in the way when youre skiing in the park. they are the best. anyone else use em?

for reference i am 6'1 and the top of my poles reach right below my waist line. my "dick" if you will.

haha nice reference point.
I also use small poles. But not on purpose, I just napped the first pair of rentals I found left outside. About waist high as well. They're alot of fun for messing around with.

I found through experimenting over the years that longer poles (closer to the recommend size for your height) allow you to rip steep terrain alot better, I find it annoying billy goating things with short poles. But if your on the east side or midwest and theres not much fun to be had getting to the park from the chair or getting to the chair from the park then short poles are good.

Short poles are obviously the shit and you look like an idiot skiing park with "fitting" poles.  Mine are like 2-3 inches lower than my peepee.

Idaho here. and i know what you mean. but i dont find myself skiing steeps very often or often enough to worry about it. tree lines, out of bounds runs, yes. AK steeps, no.

I ski both with and without, when I do use some I have two pair, a park pair, that are a little under 2', and a shreddin pair that touch the ground only when my arms are straight. However when it comes to skiing powder, I always go no poles.

pole planting doesnt really have as big of a place in modern skiing. granted when shit gets gnarly a plole plant is necisary but other than that its a thing of the past, and bumps i guess.

yeah im just being a douche. but regardless, if youre skiing steeps you need to have a damn good plant every once in a while. so for most "big mountain" guys the plant will never truly lose status.

but yeah, i ride pretty short poles too. 42 inches but im 6'2"


however nothing makes me laugh harder than the kids on like 30 inch poles that dont have any purpose, they just hold them cuz they think no poles is "gay". trust me dude, you look way dumber with those micro poles than if you dont have any at all...

my poles are about medium length, not to short or too long. have had them since when i started skiing when i was alot shorter, and got some new ones when i grew more, but then i realized i like them a bit shorter so i started using the ones from when i first started again

I use poles that are only a few sizes small, and honestly I think its pretty ridiculous when people have tiny poles, I'd rather just not use them if I was going to do that.

I can't use really small poles.  I used an old childrens pair when I went on my ski trip so I wouldn't care about them being smashed around and best and shit under the bus and after those 2 days of leaning down constantly to push myself, my back was killing me.  Granted the poles were tiny but they were probably the length of what some kids use.

I have been thinking of using one pole for this winter.  I mean im kinda on the fence of the whole poles or no poles issue and i think if i just carry one pole all my style problems will be solved.
