How do i watch .mkv files on a mac?

Title says it all, how do I watch .mkv files on a mac, what program should I use? Or does it need to be converted?

Use VLC, it works good for me. I look for a good converter to make mkv to mov/mp4. Ive tried almost every converter and i need help! +k

You can transcode MKV to whatever you want using VLC.  You might lose some of the chapter info that is stored in the MKV but can't be stored in other formats, but it isn't really a big deal.

Anyways, just go to Media->Convert/Save, and follow the wizard.  First choose the local file, then hit convert and choose where you want to save the new file.  Use one of the default profiles.
