Monster with nitrous oxide

has anyone tryed the new monster with nitrous oxide in it? shits rediculous. i cant believe its legal considering nothing is anymore.haha. http://newsblaze.com/story/2009080508140200003.pnw/topstory.html

why would it be illegal, im guessing the nitrous is pumped into the beverage to make it carbonated, although in this case it might be called nitrated, all it is is bubbles and its not going to get you high or anything

ummm, nitrous is what detists used to use to numb teeth yo, its in a can of whip cream, its the propellant in whip cream yo

it is pumped into it. but if you shake it up and inhale its close to the same as a whip-it. you can also gett he affect of "laughing gas" if you drink enough.  i just figured it would be illegal considering its another additive to give you a "buz" and the government isnt about that. from my view point

verry true. but have you ever herd of whip-its? taking hits of nitrous oxide gas is a super hard drug. as in "steveo- the demise and rise" and yes it is used to numb your teeth. but so is novicane or morphean and you cant go buy that at a store

It tastes aight but it's damn expensive, I only drink it if it's free.
Why would it be ilegal?  Think about what you say, I mean does it make any sense that it would be illegal, I'm wondering what your thought process was there.

sorry not going to get you high...and nothing wrong with an occasional whip-it.. but this is much like Guinness is poured on a nitrous tap rather than o2.. changes texture doesn't get you high.

whip its and nitrous in general is one of the greatest highs you can get omg i love that shit.
i'm very curious if shaking the drink will release any of it to get a buzz off of...not sure.

I'm pretty certain that article fucked up and said nitrous oxide instead of nitric oxide. Nitrous Oxide (N2O) makes no sense to use becuase it has to be inhaled to do anything (it's a gas). If you drank it your stomach would do nothing to process it so it would have no effect

On the other hand nitric oxide, which is commonly used by gym rats (No-Xplode), is a vaso dilator (increases the size of your blood vessels) and makes a hell of a lot more sense for Monster to put in their drinks.

SO

No this energy drink will not be numbing or make you laugh or get you high like whipits.

Our comments have begun to come alive with information about the new Nitrous line from Monster.

Nothing about the drinks has shown up on Monster’s official website yet, but the internet is already coming alive with reviews.

At energy fiend we wanted to make sure consumers understand what this new line of energy drink really is. Unfortunately, it is a clever marketing campaign by Monster.

These drinks do not contain Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas).  How do we know this? Well it is illegal in the USA to market and sell a food product containing N2O  as a ingredient for human consumption and it can only be used as a propellant such as in whip cream.  So if you were planning on getting some type of euphoric feeling from these drinks, you will be disappointed.

So Monster, by calling their new line Nitrous is hoping that people will associate the new drink with what they know about nitrous oxide, which is also used as a power enhancement for engines  and equate the drink with performing according to this prior knowledge, thinking it will give them some euphoric rush of energy.

Clever marketing, but slightly deceptive. What do you think about Monster’s new line?

Update 11/8/09 – Lots of great debate and info in the comments so keep them comming!  We’ve contacted Monster and are hoping someone will reply or comment here about how they are nitrogenating the water. We still aren’t entirely convinced it’s Nitrous Oxide because of the FDA regulations. Maybe someone could test it for us in their school’s  Chem Lab?

No the article is right here. Nitrous oxide, N2O, is a gas that when used in conjunction with a carbonated beverage will make the liquid a creamier consistency (think guinness vs. bud light). Nitric Oxide, NO, is also a gas, there isn't technically NO in stuff like NO-Xplode and SuperPump. There's an amino acid precursor (L-arginine) that causes the body to produce NO which then causes blood vessels to dilate.

The N2O has nothing to do with energy or getting you high, you would need to super-compress hundreds of cans to get enough N2O out of them to get you high. It's strictly a consistency thing.
