Microphone without "hissing" Help

So I want a good mic for my 5D. I did a lot of research, and came up with nothing. This is what I posted in a 5D forum...

"So after doing research for about 2 hours, I have came to the conclusion with the 5D that one needs a preamp such as the JuicedLink with an XLR microphone and it is impossible to plug a mic into the 5D and get clean audio. However I have seen some examples with the JuicedLink with hissing...

I also looked at field recorders such as the ever so popular Samson H4. That seem very low, if any hissing. However I need to sync in post.

I saw using a high pass filter to get rid of the hissing, however some people say it doesn't work too well.

So now I'm completely lost. What can you guys/girls help me out with... All I want is a microphone for my camera to record sound. Mainly voice sound effects and sometimes ambient. I am a student with a budget, granted I have an expensive camera, I don't have a bunch of money to spend on sound (yet)."

The samson Zoom H4n is a pretty good audio recorder as you mentioned. I'd skip the H4 and go for the H4n because I've heard about sync issues with the former. The main thing to keep in mind with an external recorder is that you'll need a clap board/slate in order to sync the audio. The plus is that you have xlr ports, which gives you a lot more options of microphones to choose from. A good XLR shotgun mic to look at is the RODE NTG-2. If you decide against the H4n recorder, check out some of the Rode mics that have the 1/8th inch jack instead of xlr. The Rode videomic and the Rode stereo mic are good options.

I was looking at the Rode videomic, but the same thing, they had hissing in them, unless they were powered by a preamp. I'll look into it though, thanks.
