Organizing clips in final cut

what is the best way to organize clips in final cut, so that they are easier to arrange and move around?

i should be more specific.
so i have a bunch of shots from some urban today and i'm new to final cut. I couldn't figure out the best way to organize all my clips so i can arrange them and whatnot.
Do i import it all at once then cut it up? important them one at a time as different clips? or something else?

few techniques here that i use

dragging them into the timeline from the browser (sry if i name the windows wrong been working in lots of different programs lately) and cut the clips using the blade then create bins...good ones are to organize based on location athletes name lifestyle ect... what ever works best for you then drag the clips into the bin that they appropriately fit into and put your clips in the browser in the appropriate bin

or you could use in and out points in the viewer(again sry if i named the window wrong) and drag the shot from the canvas down to the timeline using a insert edit then when its in the timeline right click on it and click make independent clip and then right click and go to item properties and name the clip as you think works best then drag the clip into your bins however you decide to create them

I usually label when importing (transfer not capture) and just send it from there. I usually only edit shit that ive shot in like the past week so i can usually remember what i shot when in relation to other shit.

Ok so i'm sorry to bump this back up but i'm still having trouble
So i tried importing everything at once as one big "clip," and cutting up all the different takes of the rail, but when i went to reorder the clips i cut up i had some trouble. So i could either move everything by hand, like every single clip, had to overwrite or delete some, or ended up with the whole "clip" not just the part i cut.
Then i tried to import each take of the rail as a separate "clip," one by one. I stopped this because it took forever and i didn't finish.
Then i tried putting it into iphoto so that it would separate each time i stopped the camera as a clip, but when i tried to open it in Final Cut it said that it was the wrong kind of file.

So i hope some of you can take the time to read this and help me out, thanks

i really recommend capturing them one by one and named them and putting them into folders, its so much easier to find stuff to want, its a matter of taking the time to do what you need to do to keep organized

thanks, i was just wondering if there was an easier way to do it.
On an old thread there was something about doing something with DV start/stop, which cut it at the point where the camera started and stopped. Anyone know about this?

YES if you capture a long clip or the whole tape you will want to use DV/Start Stop Detect...Basically you click on the clip you captured then search DV STOP START detect or something like that in the help menu and it will point to where it is, if you have final cut you should know what i am talking about...then it will make your clip have an arrow next to it. Drop it down and yo uwill see all the red little clips and you can rename from there and drag individual ones into the time line as needed.


But i am going to suggest you capture each clip at a time. not one big one. this makes it easier to name and organize into bins! good luck
