Longboard Or Skateboard?

im thinking about getting either a longboard or skateboard but i don't kno what to get

i just started skating and i wanna learn new stuff on my board
BUT i want a board more used for transportation

what should i get?
what do you perfer?

if you are going to do flippy spinny trickys get a skateboard, but if you want to go someplace smoothly and have even more fun... get a longboard. kracked skull btw!

skateboard. its so much fun once you get the hang of it. you can ride transition, skate street, skate park, and even flatland is fun. once you can kickflip and get the feel for flip tricks, its so much better than longboarding. dont get me wrong though, longboarding is fun if you want to chill and cruise, but if you are looking to get into an action sport, then you should buy a skateboard. plus they are cheaper.

get a krooked zip zinger, it's the best of both worlds. Amazing for cruising and you can pop tricks.

Skateboard. You can still get around on it and once you get the hang of it, its so much fun, and you can enjoy it pretty much anywhere. Theoretically the same goes for a longboard, but i just wouldnt imagine it being quite as fun in a place where it was completely flat.

i have both. longboards are way faster and more fun to cruise on, but you don't have much agility (impossible to make sharp turns and fast stops). they also let you ride over sketchier surfaces like patches of gravel and grass and big cracks in the sidewalk. wicked fun for hills too.

skateboards are way more versatile. you don't have to pick them up when you need to get on a sidewalk, for example. you can jump over stuff, learn new tricks, and ride off of stuff. i'd say it allows you to do more things if you're interested in pursuing the tricky aspect. if you're not, you can still enjoy pivoting and tic-tacs.

if you want to be able to cruise around pretty well but still be able to ollie and kickflip, get a cruiser deck like the zig zag that was mentioned by someone up above

Long. Carving is so fun.
And if your going to be commuting/long distance skating, longboard is TEN TIMES better for that shit. Thats how I used to get to work, 5 miles to and from. Not a huge distance, but it was the same trip multiple times a day. NEVER would have done that shit on a skateboard

loaded is pretty over rated and way too expensive. Also someone above mentioned that a long board is not as versatile like turning wise, personnally i feel like i have a lot more control on my longboard than my skate board. Skating is fun to do tricks but not good for commuting. With a longboard though you can do different tricks, ride real fast, and smooth. I support longboard but try and get both

if you got friends that skateboard, get a skateboard. some of the best days of my life were the days when i would go downtown and skate street every day. also you meet some pretty cool people at skateparks and if your good most people are really friendly. but getting the hang of it really sucks. i skated for 4 years and it was fun and i got pretty good..but not the best in the park. but once you get it down it is really fun.

With longboarding its pretty much fun right off the start because its not really a difficult task to just push and coast. But is really fun going down decent hills and carving and shit.

Longboarding is way more chill and skateboarding is way more technical and makes you frustrated a lot more.

Longboarding is super fun. I usually suck at skateboarding, but I picked up longboarding in about five minutes. Bombing hills and making huge wide carves feels GREAT. If you have any hills, get a longboard.

longboard without a doubt. i cant believe you even asked this. longboarding is so much fun. if you want get a shorter board with paris trucks and a kick tail, that way you can ollie it and do quite a few different tricks. Personally i ride all medium and longer boards, i have rayne timeline with revenge trucks which is mad fun for carving and even taking in the bowl at the park, i got a bomb hills and im getting a set of randels with otang 4prez for it, and i have a never summer norad with paris trucks, which still carves like mad, and the board has a kick tail. for sure look into a longboard, way way way more practical. nothing beats a good sesh to help with your flow then going out for a chill board

Get a longboard and no one will assume you're a poser. Also if you have to ask, you probably have no idea how hard skateboarding is and will just get frustrated trying to learn trickz.
