Well Ryno, if you're still working on this my suggestion would be to pick up soundtracks from Good Morning Vietnam and Full Metal Jacket.  These were both loaded with great songs from that era.

 no one really knows what that song is about, but if you look at the lyrics it sounds like its from a Vietcong perspective, and five to one was the ratio between vietcong and american soldiers. good song, its also the sample for renegade by jay z i do beleive
