for all you noobz i heard Toben Washebasin himself joking about it this summer at Hood, "the trick doesnt matter as long as you pop your body up into the most ridiculously forced, body boner possible upon landing." or something like that. i was high as fuck. seriously though, when did skiing decide that "style" is wearing big clothes and banging like hammers on every kiddy park rail landing? ive always said, "i like HIS/HER style" i do not evaluate a skier as having or not having a predefined, set, industry standard style. fuck it, everyone should be required to wear an agreed upon outfit at the beginning of the season and we will just think like a mass organism. there will be no deviation from the rule. deviation will result in outcast treatment. now that sounds hypothetical and ridiculous yes, but i ask you to consider what happened to the first no pole skiers and the first skiers who wore tight pants or the skiers who continue to wear clothing that fits them rather than hangs off of them.
we have become a large group of individuals who gain fresh blood into our ranks by the bajillions every year. we need to instill in these youths the fire to develop their OWN style not Simon Dumont's or Henrik Harluat's style. (not a call out, just an example. those guys are gods, relax). im not saying we should be like Airblaster and "get creative" all over the place and all start minishredding the fuck out of ski-towns across the world, nor am i saying we should hate on the kid who happens to have a g-suit and dildobangs his K-Fed's in the kiddy park but i am saying we should not by any means fall into the trap i can see looming. big clothes do look cool, yeah. i personally wear tighter pants and i think theyre cool, yeah. there are fashion trends that are important to the industry cuz the closing just looks cool, yeah. but because i see a kid thats new to freeskiing wearing Burton's Average Joey gear learning how to slide boxes in the park im not gonna say "he has no style, for he is not gypsy and he is not hood and he does not afterbang and he does not get creative on his tindy's" he is merely a young seedling developing in the sick cess pool that is the skiing industry (WME suit etc. etc.) we cant force people to adopt a set standard of criteria for them to attain COOLNESS or we will ultimately stagnate the progress of the sport we all love.
remember 3 years ago when 50-50s were gay and i got made fun of for messing with em cuz i rollerblade? yeah, now theyre called nuggets or some shit and fuckin everyone does em. thanks Parry. i like Andy Parry cuz hes a damn good example of a guy who does whatever the fuck he wants, has his own and very unique style yet still he takes from modern skiing fashion and does so at his will. if im wrong you can bitch me out.
every year we get these SAVE SKIING HOLY FUCK threads but they disappear as this one will. im just your average NSer who's been here a while and i havent made one yet and i think nomensteven has made alot over the years and needs a rest. thats it.
