This guy obviously had a lot of people coming to him and requesting this or I doubt he would have considered it. When a large number of complaints come in bitching about snowboarders almost killing me/wife/kid the management (esp. of a small hill like this one) decided to try something to placate his paying customers.

actually, when i was aabout 11 i tried going down a double black alone, the fastest way to the lift, i'm pretty good a moguls and the steeps and i can do it and i had before. but a patroller stopped me and said that it was too dangerous

secondly: this rule is stupid. although i acknowledge that some skiers and snowboarders alike sometimes go down runs that may not be very good for them, but then, what will you learn from. the discrimination against snowboarders is outrageous and uncalled for. whoever says that they dont get annoyed when you see a snowboarder scraping all the powder off the run is a weirdo, we all do. but even so i dont think that they should make rules telling people who and who cant go down certain runs.

true true. im not bias towards one or the other (im actually started snowboarding then picked up skiing). i also work at what was originally a snowboard only park (first in world claim lol) but they have now changed to allow everyone

damn, I take trips up there every winter, I didn't think that they would ever do a thing like that.
And I lvoe how they only think the "snowboard park" is only used by snowboarders, or that only snowboarders are allowed to use it. LAst year there was this gaper family and the dad tried to hit this huge c-box and overshot the whole feature and fucked his shit up real bad and had to leave in an ambulance

wow ive been to granite peak before and there were plenty of skiers in the park. if they really want to let only certain people on a run, it should be only letting experienced riders into the park.

Im pretty sure Mad River is the only other one.  But its more of a club then a ski mtn.  Its owned and run by a board committie and they have always voted to not allow snowboarders.
The 4th was taos untill last year

I had no idea there were Mtns like Mad River in NH that didn't allow snowboarding untill last year.  I nearly flipped a shit learning about it.  Fuckin ridiculous. 

But then i learned Mad River Glen only has that policy because their 2 person chairlifts and other surface lifts are farily dangerous for loading SB. I've never been there, idk whatever.  It's all probably a load of shit.  there's really no good argument for segregating like that imo.

This is true, but banning snowboarders wont do shit. Now days the majority of gapers are on 160 cm carving skis, which allows them do slide turn down just about anything. The reason to do this would be to build good bumps I am assuming, and these days it's not just snowboarders preventing good moguls from forming, but fucking everyone.

It would have been sweet to grow up in the 70's where hills were littered with moguls and hot doggers. Not complaining about fat skis, high speed chairs and terrain parks though.

Mad River Glen is in Vermont. The only reason they don't allow snowboarders is because a long time ago they were debating letting boarders in, one of the heads of the co-op was in the grocery store and this snowboarder came up to her and gave her lip and was a bitch so they banned snowboarders cause of one dumb broad. True story.

HAHA that might be the story you heard but i had a business professor at UVM who is on the board at MRG do an entire day of class on the subject.  It is a plan to diversify itself from the market and garner a nieche that is currently not filled in the northern US.  MRG is almost a camp, anyone that has been will tell you it is a very communal vibe, the "lodge" at the bottom is just an old house.  They have a double lift and a single lift, no snowmaking, and no grooming.  The whole idea is that it is supposed to be a step back in time to the 1950's when every ski hill was run this way.  Every other mountain is trying to cater to familes, vacationers, and gapers.  MRG is trying to offer a different expierience, even the slogan "ski it if you can" brings on the idea that it is not a place for lessons and gaper weekends.

I know this has nothing to do with granite peaks but it is what keeps MRG in the papers and keeps people coming back, its different.

So thinking about sending this to Granite Peak just wanted to get other ppls opinions on it so i dont look like a tool :

This so called ban of runs for snowboarders is ridiculous. I am a skier have been my whole life. I am also a shop employee in the state of Wisconsin. The rift between snowboarders and skiers is only going to get worse with with new "rule". The comment in your press release, "Skiers have told us that the rhythm, turn radius, and visual orientation is different for skiers and snowboarders" is the most ignorant argument ever. Skis and snowboards turn radius are very comparable. It all depends on the ski or board. For example on a slalom ski your turn radius is going to be in the low teens (11m-13m) and besides that skis range all the way up too around 25m radius. Snowboards on the other hand use the same range with a race boards starting around a 10m radius in slalom boards and ranging to around 15m turn radius in a Giant Slalom board. As far as the rhythm of skiing to snowboarding if the turn radii of snowboards are similar, then there would be no difference between skiers and snowboarders just people with different styles. As far as visual orientation goes I would hope that snowboarders and skiers alike are looking down the hill. We all have blind spots its up to the individuals to ski/snowboard responsibly.

Alta is dangerous. The high traverse and all the other traverses are very dangerous. I'm not saying i support the ban of snowboarders but if they allowed them at alta there would be exponentailly more accidents.
