I need an HD camera

Been searching around but I dont know too much about this stuff. I'm looking for an HD camera though, hopefully for ~$600, that records to flashcards, has the ability to have upgrades added over time (mic, lenses, etc), and that films in low light settings and snow settings well (manual controls not necessary if the presets work well).

I'm just looking for some suggestions/links to some gear. It doesn't have to be the most current model, but it does have to fit the above description.

for 700 my essentually new panasic sd100 is all yours, ive had it for a few months but havent even uploaded footage with it yet, flash memory, great picture

You could look into a Nikon D5000 or a Canon t1i..both are dslrs that take "HD" video and great stills as well.  Nikon is about 700 with a kit lens now and Canon is about 800.  Check my videos for the quality of the nikon

id say something like the XR100 as just mentioned before would suit you well

but most of the cameras suggested are going to conflict with your one request, interchangeable lenses and microphones

you can get mics for some smaller High def HDD camcorders though, but if you want to change lenses, have more functionality, etc, you're going to have to go above 1000 for sure imo

what about the rebel Ti1 or whatever it is? i have a 40D, but doesnt that take decent video, quality lense set is available, adjustable settings, low budget, still pictures that are decent and all?

DONT LISTEN TO THIS.

HDD is not the way to go if you want to followcam and have it get bummped around. go with tape or SD card

bump your budget like 200 bucks and get the canon HV40. its around 900 right now. records to tape, full 1080, 30p and can change lenses and add a mic.

such a good cam

I had a panasonic HDD camcorder two seasons ago.. worst quality i have ever seen..but besides that the hard drive worked fine through the cold and even dropped it once.

ya i heard that to... when u think about it that makes sense though, vibration knocks it around and in higher altitude can be colder and slow it down... if ur gonna film skiing thats something to have in mind

i had a sony hdd camera for the last 2 seeason and it worked fine for me, didnt really have a problem with it if i remeber correctly, and the big space was nice expecially when you give it to your friends to film and they leave it on for 45 minutes. But i say that without knowing what altitude or extreme cold would do to it, coldest day i got was like -30 celsius if that and my mountain is more of a hill, so i dunno, no problems on my side.

right now for prices of cameras as they are, i don't know why you wouldn't get an hd camera...
