So ive recently been on the college search, found out i hated every college i visited out west except for bozeman that was decent. So now i need to try some local ones. Definately going to look at duluth but i cant really think of any others here in state. I need some input as to a good school here.
when i was looking at colleges, i hate every one i looked at in colorado and also found bozeman awesome. i ended up going to university of utah for awhile and had a blast. look into westminster or u of u. In the midwest, look at Northern Michigan. its like 7 minutes from Marquette Mountain and 90 from mount bohemia
Haha, I went out to school in Bozeman for 2 years, It was an extremely expensive 2 year ski vacation lol and I Had to transfer back to MN because I wasn't getting any school work done. I now go to UMD. Although Bozeman was epic, Im glad im back in MN because you take for granted living in the mountains...... also its called Boys-man, Man-tana, the Bro-zone, Boys-angelous, u get the picture... girl to guy ration.... tons of dudes, nappy mountain girls with mustaches. Ha hope this helps... but by no means do I regret going to bozeman for 2 years. Good luck man
Colorado Mountain college if you like 2 year pile degrees and transfers they have 2 campus one in steamboat and one in breck along with many other ones.
I went to Wyoming,Bozeman, and Salt lake. I hated Utah, wyoming was the hickest place i have ever been ever. Bozeman was good and all but i cant see myself getting anything done, and i just couldnt see myself going there, im applying anyways. Im def thinking Midwest but more MN. Im doing my bozeman and UMD apps right now
I loved Bozeman too, but my favorite school right now is the University of Denver. The two things that suck about it are that it's expensive and kinda far from skiing. If you're smart, they're pretty generous with scholarships. If you're not smart... then I hope your parents are rich.
I didn't like SLC either. I wasn't impressed by the U of U but Westminster was pretty impressive. The town might not be too great but skiing's super close and better than both Montana and Colorado IMO.
If I could have the town of Bozeman, in the mountains of Utah, with the academics of the University of Denver, and the pricetag of an in-state public school, then I'd be happy haha
Word I'm transferring to DU this winter, its spendy but like you said they make it pretty easy for you if you're deserving. It's really not that bad either, it's far enough away from the mountains that you actually get shit done and are not super distracted. Keystone, Breck, and A bay are only a little over an hour away in good conditions, too. Plus, unless you're a Bio major you have fridays off, so three days weekends to go up and ski!
29 is really legit, 3.0 is average so I would say apply. It can't hurt. And if you visited the place you would fall in love with it, everyone does. Plus Colorado is the best state. You get sunny, mild weather during the winter in Denver, and you've got feet upon feet of snow at the same time an hour away. Oh, and it's the sunniest state in the country with 300+ annual days of it per year. Can't be beat son!
back when I was trying to figure out where I was going to go to college, I was debating between three choices, Utah, CMC or U of M twin cities. My biggest deciding factor was money though. I ended up staying here in MN and am glad I did. I had a great time these last four years.
As far as skiing colleges go here in the midwest I think you have 3 decent choices. U of M twin cities, UMD and Northern MI. Unless you are hella rich and can afford to go out west and graduate in five years, I would recomend one of these three. You can alwas go out west on your breaks.
Right on. It's definitely worth applying to if you have some interest but can't make the trip out soon. From there you can wait until you're (probably) accepted and see if you can afford it before touring the school.
I'd guess a 29 act w/ 3.0 gpa would be accepted but, as for scholarships... I have no idea what you'd get. I just sent in my app this week with a 28 act and 3.85 gpa and I feel pretty good about getting accepted but it's really the scholarships that will determine if I can go there. Hopefully everything works out cuz I have almost no idea what my second college choice is.
oh i forgot to mention one pro of going to university of minnesota twin cities: the national student exchange program + an incredibly lax structure about transferring credits. I will graduate next semester from the U and will have only taken 45 (3 semesters) worth of credits at the U. The rest of the time I have been other places paying cheap in state tuition and having a blast. Do the ideal year: fall semester hawaii, spring semester: co or ut or bozeman. best part: realizing it costs lest to do the national student exchange then go to real school at the U of M lol
i know about 4 out of 100 or so people who went to bozeman who actually get anything done or graduate from there, idk y, its just how it works. I was there a year then didn't go back. Cool school, cool people, seriously good skiing, but nobody stays long.
UMD is cool, its definitely not as good of schooling as most places though.
Im in my second semester at the U, its cool, dont get scared by how big it is. We'll see how the skiing goes this winter though......i haven't skied in minnesota in 5 years....im going to go through pow withdrawls.
And don't worry about making a mistake by going the worng place and switching, pretty much everyone does these days.
in MN the UofM is good, UMD is a good choice asain allan and portinga are up there if you are looking for any information talk to them. UW would be a good choice to i don't think its to far from the ski areas around.
