cine film

i have just had a sudden burst of enthusiasim for something i've wanted to try for a while. i want to try shooting some footage on an old cine film camera. i know this is possible i was just wondering if any one with experience had any tips, especially on exposures and such. my knowledge of film is photography based and reasonably detailed. but im not too hot on how this would transfer to cine film.

how old are you talking? because depending on what year your shit could be either extremely cheap or very very expensive.

obviously the idea was that it would be really really cheap(ish - i know there is problems like getting it developed and transfer to some form of digital format). my dads got a very basic consumer camera probably from the 70's. my schools also got a more interesting looking one which i might have a look at using. im really going to have to research the feasability of this. i was just wondering if anyone had experience of trying this.

i don't think this is going to be as hard as you think it might be. i'm not sure what mm rating your camera is, but its pretty much stayed the same in that aspect. its just like using a still frame camera from the 70's. put the film in and shoot away, then send it to a developer (thats the expensive part) who will then throw it on a dvd for you and you can edit the fuck out of it.

a rool of cine film seems to cost about £12 (sorry im probably gunna annoy folk by pricing things in £'s) and that includes development. the draw back...£4.70 to transfer 50 feet to video, min charge £18. i can probably find cheaper for the putting on to video/dvd but i can at least look at the footage - if i can find a projector and see if it looks like it will work. thanks for all the advice.

just think about how amazing it will look when you get it on a screen, thats your motivation. except be patient, because its not going to come out looking good for a while, it takes time to expiriment and get it down.
