Soo i cant decide on outerwear...

i cant decide on buying first drop or saga. i know saga has 20k and first drop only has 8k waterproofing. i like the look of first drop but the reputation of good quality that saga has. any help NS?

I have not used it yet but I do have it and Armada feels very solid.  Again , I have not skied in it yet.  Its pretty cheap also.  I got a jacket and pants for $439.00 and that original price, no homie hookups.

I think its funny how everyone is on the First Drop bandwagon.  I bet the only people to even use it is the people fromFirst Drop.

Well I Emailed Armada and some guy called me back and I wanted to ask about the sizing.  The guy was so helpful and did not try to rush off the phone.  His name was Tyson.  He was like "go to your local dealer and support them" which I thought was way badass.  So I went to a local shop where I live and tried everything on there and thats where I made my purchase.  Gotta support the locals.  There fit is awesome, solid.  I wear a M in Oakley but had to get a L in Armada.

I was in the exact same situation, because the saga presale ends tonight so I had to decide. I ended up ordering up an XL blue suit from First Drop. I talked to Lesh on the phone a bit, and he sold me on the waterproofing, and durability stuff. Also I like how First Drop has a Bib pant, Insulation, and other little stuff like the magnetic hood thing. I was also right inbetween a Large and XL in saga (I'm 5'10) and the First Drop XL is right inbetween the two Saga sizes.

Wow only 8k on first drop? thats weak for a sportcheck jacket. I'm glad I got my Saga. I also love my Armada jacket I think it was the ranger? its Bright green super sick looking and I've never had so many compliments from non skiers.

if you have the money to drop I'd go with some Trew. There stuff looks legit, is 20/20k and I've only heard good things. Just expensive....

If you don't care about waterproofing at all or buy the whole "the waterproofing rating system is bullshit" thing then I'd probably go with First Drop pants and an LD jacket.

Saga's pants are sick this year, I ordered a pair a while ago before I even knew about First Drop, but personally I just think bib pants are pretty cool.  Preference thing, I would have bought Air Raid pants over Saga if not for the price difference. 

The first drop jacket's big pocket right in the middle of the jacket is stupid IMO, as far as looks and functionality go.  Personally from the pictures I think Saga's jacket this year looks awkward somehow, something to do with the collar, but I don't know, it might look ok when its actually being worn and not just a shitty picture. I think the LD jackets look subtle and pretty sick. 

The thing about First Drop and the whole waterproofing thing is I just think its a little convenient that the guy that comes along and says "the waterproof rating system means nothing" also just happens to be the guy who's outerwear company has an 8k rating and is going up against 15k-20k ratings.  Just my two cents. 

I'm also hesitant to buy anything's first production run, whether it has to do with skiing or not, but thats just me.

also they tend to not answere to emails until you write them 3 or so.
they are not reliable in picking up the phone etc.
they also seem to get orders wrong and have problems with sticking to self-set deadlines. but i have to give them props for some bad ass clothing.

however, they are also legit in making up for things. heard several stories where they hooked somebody up with shirts etc if something went wrong.

also is the XL of saga 3 inches longer. dunno if that matters for you.
i dont know how the customer service of first drop is. it might be better or it might be worse.

Yea.  I ordered from them last spring when they were selling all their 08 09 gear, and got a really good deal.  I didn't really pay that much attention to the shipping, but I think it came within 3 weeks.  The only problem was the pants were a Large instead of a Medium, but I think that was due to what was in stock because they were getting rid of their old stuff.

I haven't really used the stuff on the hill, but I have worn the jacket around and it seems pretty legit.

I'm glad that I got my shit on time, and the large pants really aren't a problem so I guess that I had a good experience with them.

it amazes me how one semi-well known guy makes a thread about the company and now all of the sudden its the greatest outerwear ever made.

ive seen this happen and the ship sink before it even sets sail...cough cough...AERYX....cough cough.

the owner seems like a decent guy though so maybe this will do better.

still i wouldnt invest 4 notes into a suit until i have more and 1 or 2 people i have never met tell me its dope.

Probably the most important characteristic of any pair of ski pants is the waterproof rating. This rating tells you how quickly your pants will become saturated and begin allowing water to penetrate to the layers below. Waterproof ratings are measured and indicated in millimeters(mm). The level is determined by placing a tube filled on the fabric and filling it with water. The level at which the water begins to penetrate through the fabric is the waterproof rating. The higher the number, the more waterproof the pant is and the longer it will withstand snow and rain. For a pair of pants to be deemed legally waterproof, it must achieve a minimum 1,500mm rating. Pants can be rated as high as 20,000mm, but the average rating is typically between 5,000 and 10,000mm. Keep in mind that as the rating goes higher, so too will the price.

There are many different types of waterproof fabrics that are used on the market today. Among the more well-known materials that are used are Gore-Tex, Hyvent, and Event. What makes materials such as these so effective is that they contain pores which are larger than a molecule of sweat, but smaller than a molecule of water. This means that not only is the material waterproof, but also very breathable.

hes mad legit dude easy to work with and is very easy to get ahold of personally.
i warrantied my armadas last season and talked to him. broke again and i just dialed up the extension he gave me the first time. picked up and the first ring and remembered who i was. he said skis usually only get warrentied once but he said since they broke twice and i still wanted to rock em he just sent me a new pair for being a loyal customer

Just to clear it up, waterproofing definitely DOES matter. But when people think of a jacket as being waterproof, they think that it doesn't get saturated with water when its snowing/raining (and of course not getting wet). That's that part where it's not the rating that deems a fabric resistant to water logging. There is a lot more to it than that. There is always the same amount of pressure from the elements trying to get in your suit, so that's why it doesn't make sense to test a fabric for the pressures that would never exist in real life skiing. Just my thoughts, experience, research.. In my posts above it sounds like I just called up Lish and believed all this bogus about waterproofing. This was not the case, I've actually been researching this for a while now, and I got into researching it a bit more before I ordered a suit.
