Is it possible to ski without brakes?

i have some old salomon bindings that im going to but on my old anthems to use on my backyard jibs and jumps and stuff. sence i wont be at a ski hill this these would it be okay not to have brakes on them? because i dont feel like going out and spending $40 on brakes so they fit my anthems.

yes it is fine, i don't recommend skiing at an actual mountain without brakes though

yes you can, but i also dont recommend crashing hard enough for the skis to fall off of your boots or your skis will start going down the trail potentially getting lost in the woods or hitting someone.

its possible, but sometimes you're boot doesn't fit properly so they pre-release often - and most mountains don't let you ski with out brakes/with broken brakes so you wont be able to go there with them (I know you said you don't plan on it - but just clarifying). It might be worth it to try and bend the brake or just have them on there and resting on the ski cause then your boot will fit right. Also, are they already mounted cause a shop wont mount without brakes either.

i skied without brakes on one of my skis for 2 months last year.  had to go find my skis in the trees more than once

If the skis go down the mountain without brakes you could kill a kid or something.

My friend snapped the brakes off of one of his solly binders, and  ski ejected on a rail, it went all the way down the hill and hit someone, ski patrol was PISSED. So he rode with a leash for the rest of the season.

it's possible to ski without brakes, but as stated above, most mountains require that you have brakes and/or a leash.

I was kinda wondering the same thing cause i broke one of my brakes and ive been skiing my summer setup fine except i pop out alot and sometimes i cant click in

Definately works, but indeed, it sucks to lose a ski. The only function of brakes is to stop the ski from sliding without the binding loaded so yes, your bindings will work normally without brakes if youre ok with chasing a rogue ski.

you can ski without brake, ive done it for the past 2 years, but when you loose a ski it sucks. ive spent an hour looking for a lost ski cause they fly down the hill. haha

its pointless to have brakes for back yard unless your skis are going to go extremely far if they fall off you

yeah it should work, might be abit looser, also it depends where you're riding tho, it sucks to lose a ski and spend hours looking for it,

Just get a piece of cord or something, tie it to the binding, then tie the other end to a boot buckle.

if your skis come off and the ski hits someone and causes an injury you will be held liable. is it worth having to cover someone's medical expenses, loss of wages, damages, etc... just to ski without brakes?

Maybe you should have read the thread, hes talking about his backyard setup and is clearly not talking about taking the skis to the mountain. Its not like the kid wants to be cool and not use brakes, just doesnt want to pay for them just to use in his backyard. I skied for the last couple days of the season last year without one brake cause it broke. Your boot will move in the binding due to the lack of a brake plate, but your bindings will work fine
