Tattoo Question

So i want to get a tattoo down the side of my torso... Ribcage area-ish basically.
Its going to be like 2 verses of a song, so like 8 lines of text.

I went to get a consultation today and the dude said that getting a tat there hurts like a motherfucker and a lot of people pussy out when he starts doing one there.

Ive never got a tat before so im wondering if anyone has a tattoo there, and if they can give me some sort of idea of how much it actually hurts? compare it to something maybe? (the only thing ive voluntarily done to my body that actually hurt a bit is getting my lip pierced, and it wasnt really that bad, although it only really lasted like 5 seconds...)





tl;dr: how much do tattoos on your rib-area hurt?

ive read that you shouldnt get your first tattoo on your ribcage because it hurts alot. just wait until you get one, or buy some vicodin from me and get it jacked.

my girlfriend got a tattoo on her ribs she said that it felt like her ribcage was vibrating and she cried a bit. but Im sure once it gets going youll get used to it.

could be wrong but doesn't vicodin thin your blood and when getting a tatoo you don't want to have your blood thinned because you bleed a lot more and it is much more difficult for it to stop.

my left side was my first tattoo, then i did my shoulders, then i did my right side. Now then, the sides hurt much more than those chest/shoulder tattoos did. But my first one was one of those big long text ones down the ribs. Anyway, yes it does hurt. It hurts but for me it gets my blood pumping and it's just such a rush of adrenaline. I never took any drugs or drank or any of that bullshit before hand and I would recommend you don't either. Painkillers and/or alcohol are blood thinners and you will bleed more and it will not be good.

How bad do you want it? Unless you're really a little girl, you'll be fine. No offense of course, but seriously, you'll be fine. Any other questions? Post em up and i'll help you as best i can.

Im sure i can take it... although i am a skinny motherfucker and i dont have any fat to help absorb the pain or whatever (would that even matter at all?)

The thing is its kinda long... its like, 2 full verses of a song compared to just like the 2 lines that you got.

did the artist say you'll do it in 1 session or 2 ? sounds like 2 sessions might be the way to go. After about an hour and a half i got pretty worn out with it and needed a break

i dont have one across my ribs. but fat does matter in my opinion. i have a tat on my ass and that hurt far less then the tattoo i got on my hip (which is tattooed across some of my hip bone) BUT with that said, my ass tat was my first one so i was all pumped out of my mind.

secondly, the pain is kind of what makes it so addicting. yes, it hurts, what do you expect? but it's a different kind of pain than you think.

I got a tattoo that goes just bellow my inner knee on my calf... Basically the most painfull spot you can get one (aside from the top of the foot which I have heard is worse). It was my first one. I ate pizza the entire time bitting especially hard on the crust... as well as my fingers. Besides, its the shading that really hurts which shouldn't be anything too bad if it is just text.

If I can do it, you can do it.

Dude I'm a girl with NOOO pain tolerance and I've got tattoos in a few places.... I had a tattoo just recently done that goes OVER my achilles tendon and ankle.... probably the worst pain of my life.

Just suck it up and deal with it because if you get something good its totally worth it. The pain only lasts a couple hours and the artwork lasts a lifetime.

tattoos are not really so painful to the point where anyone should pussy out. its all about being relaxed and not thinking about the pain. i got one on my back first. a buddy of mine has 12 tattoos and he didnt get his sides done till his 11th and 12th. but said its not that bad. not sure if its a great choice for your 1st tattoo.
