Sweden just introduced a system in which food products will not only have nutritional information on them, but will also have a carbon footprint label, which will show the carbon emissions produced by that item.
I think this is definitely a step in the right direction, Sweden seems to be doing a pretty good job of it recently, introducing a "congestion charge" in August of 2007.
