So I'll explain from the beginning for everybody.
David Lesh has started a new company called First drop outerwear.
In another thread in Gear talk named "First drop outerwear" -
https://www.newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/492739/
there's is a link to the First drop website. In this thread a few people were saying the outerwear looked really good but were not sure on the waterproof/breathability of the outerwear as it states its 8k/8k.
David then stated that - "Anything over a few hundred MM is insignificant, and only hinders
breathability. I was lucky enough to get a personal demo at the REI HQ
in Washington and they showed me first hand what a scam the whole
waterproofing rating was."
also on the first drop website it states -
8,000mm waterproof/breathable (anything over a few hundred is redundant)
Now as you can imagine I'm a little confused as this isn't some little kid talking shit on ns.
I'm not going to call out David Lesh or First Drop Outerwear, as he knows alot more about the ski industry than I do seeing he's been around for a long time. and that he's a pro and I'm not.
I was always under the impression that any piece of outerwear under 10k/10k was poor (i.e. you would get wet) and anything around 20k/20k was very good, (i.e. you would stay dry in almost anything) and seeing how this discussion may change my views on what clothing I and others might buy in the future, it would be helpful if this is cleared up. thanks
