Windows 7, upgrade

i have a dell studio xps, 64bit and its running vista xp, When i got it i am egible for the free windows 7 upgrade. I really suck with computers. Is it worth up grading it and how hard is it to upgrade?

it isn't hard at all. just back up what you need to back up first. and yes, it is definitely worth it.

meh. clean installs arent that necessary, especially going from vista to 7... i didnt, along with 4 of my other friends, and there were no problems.

I'm in the same situation as the thread creator, but am seemingly more computer disabled. How do you upgrade I know that I qualify for upgrading and want to because everyone says seven is so much better but how would I go about doing that?

did you buy your computer after july 12th 2009? if so, youre elegible for a reduced upgrade. if not, youll have to buy windows 7, and install it. what os are you running now?

and if youre a student in canada, there's a sick deal, 39.99 for seven premium home edition!

not hard if you have the right tools. do you have somewhere you can back up all your stuff? like a harddrive? other computer? online? if so, back up, but programs dont get backed up :(

then format your hard drive, put the windows 7 disc in, and youre set!

Sorry to threadjack but I didn't think it was necessary to start a new thread...

I'm running XP right now and its getting pretty shitty. and I'm not sure if I should upgrade or clean install
is it even possible to go from xp to 7? or do you need vista



1) There are some programs that I need to run that are only avalible for xp (as far as I know), will they work on 7? or do I have to wait for upgrades? Mainly photoshop/illustrator cs3, right in the middle of working on stuff for my art portfolio for college can't afford to not have these running.

2) Will these specs work well with 7?
- 3.2 ghz dual processor
- 2gb ram
- 250gb hd
- 1tb backup drive
- nvidia 8800 gt graphics card

I don't see what the big problem with vista is. i didn't really like 7 that much. vista works fine for me. The best bet hear i think would just to be "buy a mac" best decision that you could probably make.

I have the same comp, and I just did it.  Def worth it.  Pretty similar to vista, but takes a little getting used to and some configuration.  Def worth it.
