hey

I live in NY and mostly ski southern NY with a trip to vermont each year. I mostly ski allmountain, but I do ski some park. I'm looking to move up from my 175 nothing but troubles and get something that can survive on those deep days in vermont and possibly out west. I'm a college kid so I can't afford multiple skis so this has to be versatile and durable.

I ski the Line Prophet 100 for my all-mountain ski up here in Central VT.

It is an AWESOME do everything ski. The only place it is not great for is in the bumps which is mostly due to its width (and I am far from a good bump skier anyways)The ski has awesome edge grip on firm snow/ice and plenty of width of powder days in the trees.

The Prophet 90 would be an awesome choice if you want to lose a bit of powder performance and raise your groomer and bump performance a bit higher.

Definitely a ski to consider for what you're looking for.

What length should I get? Has anyone skied the new Chronic Kryptonite. it reminds me of the old blends before they were 100 underfoot. I'm alittle wary of getting something as big as the 100s only because of how they will ski on the ice.

I ski the 100s in 186cm length. There are times in tighter trees that I wish I had gone with the smaller size, but I am overall happy with the length. I am 6'0", 180lbs. I have them mounted on Line's forward recommended line.

Like I said, these skis have awesome edge grip. They seem to have a lot of torsional stiffness that helps them bite and hold an edge real hard. Granted I have not jibbed with them at all, so I haven't dulled the edges, but I have been thoroughly impressed by how well they hold an edge on ice for their width.

The 90 MIGHT be a better fit though based off where you'll be skiing the most.

i'd say line profet or line blend. i would say afterbang but they suck all mountain and the Salomon shogun are good all mountain and might be dece in park but they are no way a park ski

i ordered some on3p jeronimos for my ec all mountain twin. pretty symmetrical, small rocker in tip and tall. 96 midwaist. could be the ski for you

I have the K2 extreams for all mountian and i love them, there alot stiffer so they hold up great on gromers

ill make two lists of suggestions because i havent seen if you like stiff or soft

stiffer options:
volkl bridge
k2 extreme
k2 obsethed
volkl wall (stiffer symmetrical ski)
line chronic/kryptonite
line prophet 90/100


softer options:
k2 kung fujas
rossignol s3
rossignol s4

I definitely dont want a noodle since i mostly ski all mountain. the only thing is that when I'm home and do't feel like driving 2 hours to ski, i end up going to creek and its all park there. I just need something that can rail groomers and still hold its own in the park. Im intrested in the chronic kryptonite and the blend. im just worried about the metal matrix of the prophet line.

i absolutely love my rossi brigade bc's which are the same as last years s5. 98mm underfoot and so nice and flexy. they tear up the groomers and are really suprisingly good on ice. feel soo stable in the park its unreal and are still really light.

What would the benefits of having a softer ski be to a stiffer one and vice versa. is an ARV a softer ski?

we own ARV's and AR6's and others. I can only comment on Ontario which is pretty close to NY.

Absolutely love the ARV in Ontario and does park. Only trouble is when conditions are dry scraped off cold hardest pack etc.... where most skis start to fail and u need your race skis. Great everywhere else. And u can take em out west. Good in spring.

And recommend the AR6 - do everything all mtn park & pipe. Good up to 8" new styuff and great on hardpack and park & pipe. Better in park and pipe than ARV.Narrower. Better on the ice days.

My opinion is the AR6 is better for ice coast conditions and great park & pipe.  ARV is a better all-round all mtn  does east & west and will do park & pipe. I like both fr air - mayube the ARV better by a tiny bit.

And since the Pipe Cleaner is just about the same as the AR6...with a race base...I may get it to replace my AR6's..    faster.. they haul......but u gotta care for them...

the volkl bridges are pretty dope as far as riding goes... mine shred through anything choppy ice and fat enough for the power i ride rails with them all day only downside is they spin kinda awkward

The Chronic Kryptonite is IMHO the perfect east coast all mountain twin. Smooth flex pattern, woodcore/sidewall construction, 92 underfoot. Super fun in the trees, without being too wide/too soft for the new england hardpack. Real snappy/poppy/lively feel to them..... One of my favorites for a one-ski new england quiver.

they don't compare. arv's are really soft. cryptonites are not. they ski completely differently.

for the dude who made the thread: line blend and cryptonite are both awesome. i use 183 blends for my park/everyday ski. they're awesome. stiff but not too stiff, they grab hard on ice and shit snow, and rip for all mountain. they float well in pow, etc... i really can't say enough good things about the blends. they're the most versatile skis you can buy.

chronic cryptonites are stiffer, and they rip for all mountain. they are a little narrower and some people dig that feel, but i'm completely sold on the 100mm blends.

I ski east coast, and ive got the 4frnt MSPs. SO versatile, and you can do anything with them- bumps, trees, park, etc. they shred groomers to bits, and I couldnt be happier with them. and they float like mad in the pow, so if you go westward youll be all set. i couldnt recommend them any higher.

if I lived on the east coast i would definitely be on the volkl bridge. 92 underfoot, holds a great edge and loves speed.  The kryptonite is similar on groomed, but is a straight lead weight in soft snow.
