Alright so I never thought of this before but with FCP and my 5D MkII, the 5D records in 30 fps and the FCP reads in 29.97 fps. I was in my FCP class and the teacher said I need to convert the 30 to 29.97, thats why I getting all sorts of dropped frames. An ideas on how to convert it? I tried google/5D forums, but I cant find anything that is working. Thanks.
Usually 30fps is a reference to 29.97fps its the same thing, its easier to say 30fps. If you're having trouble with dropped frames or what not, it could be your computer not being able to play the frames smoothly or there is something in your sequence settings.
well 4reel summed it up. 30fps is actually 29.97 as 60fps is like 59.97 and 24 is 23.97...it is just easier to say. Dropped frames may deal with recording problems or camera---computer problem. Also depends of your settings in editing.
Kinda, but both you are wrong, however I take your word for it. FCP shows the 5D footage to be 30fps, and I brought in some DV footage and it said 29.97. I'm a moron and should have done this in the begining... but I went to change the sequence and made it from 29.97 to 30 and it works. I'm editing with a MBP with the better graphics card, and I even tried it on a brand new Mac Pro at school and I had to same problem. However it works now. Thanks?
I'm not positive, but if I remember correctly, you're always supposed to go with drop-frame unless you're shooting film (but not if you're syncing to audio recorded to tape).
