Skis got cheaper ... Quality wise.

Thats kinda disappointing. I was checkin some old skis in the closet... like some old k2s i used to rock. I rode them hard for about 5 years ... about 100 days at least on them, and it looked like they were used about 5 times. Ski quality seems to really have decreased since twins came out... anyone else have the same thot?

i would alsmot disagree. twins especially, depending on the skier, get trashed so much harder than other skis. jumps, rails, anything like that just wears them out fast, although some skis that are several years old do seem to hold up better in some cases, but it seems like skis are just getting better

Skis were not made to go on rails, so im not talkin about that. Im talkin about base material quality and TS quality... as far as no delam and hardly any cosmo damage.

That's problem true to a point. Keep in mind, if they make skis that last for 4 seasons, then they arent getting too much of your money are they?

Also, im thinking you problem use your skis much harder now than you did years ago... not just because of rails and stuff.

yeah, 100 days? I'm working on 100 this season with my TM's. But yes, I agree, skis are to some extent being made in a lesser way, but also the 'park' ski hasn't totally evolved, skis still aren't being made to totally accomidate the park and all that, and yeah as you get older you ski harder my trouble makers which are very fucking nice skis, have almost had it when my concepts held out for two seasons in a working condition and that's just a season apart

You guys are fucking retarded. For sure, it is a huge conspiracy, but don't tell anyone. See, everyone got together at Vegas and agreed, all skis made from now on will be shitty and cheap. Oh yeah, it is true.
I think you don't realize the stresses we now enforce upon our equipment. Much different from someone who is just skiing aggressively and flexing the ski upon natural terrain. With the intro of terrain parks all over, you now inflict the repeated pounding of landings which reverberates through the ski time and again. Minus the more obvious damage of rails, we basically beat our shit now. If you ski hard, you will use equipment and you will go through skis quickly. If you don't like this idea, go hit groomers. It is a reality. Some companies have reduced purchase cost as a measure to counter such problems. Others added anti-delam pieces and thicker edges. Ah, who am I kidding, it was K2. Anyway, skis are made better than they were ever before. No questions about it.

uhhh, skis are definately gettn better. there are so many technologies and shit. major ski companies dont really put a lot of research into park skis though, they focus on the popular skis like a freeride all mtn ski or a carving ski. skis arent cheaper, when skis delam is cuz u stressed it, that can happen any time.

lol I've been out about 45 days this year and that's HORRIBLE for me, lowest days at the hill ever.... fuckin college not being near any ski hills

but ya, skis were definately getting a shit kicking for the last couple years. I'm thinkin the most common is edge damage. Hopefully everyone jumps on the thicker edge notion and whatnot to fix that

skis are definately getting better. Example...Lines skis for next year have a 65% thicker edge so that your not going to get cracked edges from rails AS EASILY as before. Their bases are reinforced harder sintered ptex for an almost solid base (ive seen and ski'd them over cheese grater and rocks, and there varely are any marks other then dirt from the white bases).

Like everyone else said, we use our skis to the maximum potential. Of course my 5 year old slamom skis look brand new, thats cause i took them down groomed runs and never jumped them. The flex pattern of any ski isnt intended for landing on the tips/tails (no matter what the Pep Fujas flex pattern is). These landings stress the core over time, and the ski will lose its responsiveness

if u buy a ferrari and drive it 50 miles per hour all the time, the engine will drive like its brand new for 200,000 miles. If u hammer on it, its gonna last alot less.

But yeah, I know Line is making their shit super durable next year, so skis are getting better

k2 skis use 4000 p-tex and dont think line skis are much higher. Probably the toughest bases are the AK NO KA OI has an 8000 p-tex base. People swear by these sticks, there bases are almost as hard as concrete, the skis are just insane.

the older skis (read pre-shaped) were made from one core material, wood. New skis (read shaped) are made from a synergy of several different materials, such as different woods, metals and foam. They are also designed to flex much more, thus putting more stress on them. The old straight skis didnt really flex all that much, at least not in the way that shaped skis do now in a carve. THats why skis dont last as long

snowforblood, the AK NO KA OI is a fat do everything ski, I would'nt say that they are super heavy but nothing like a carbon fibre stick but light enough to slap some Fristchi Freerides on them.
