The only feature that they should not have included was video. Video has no place in a professional camera. In fact, many venues won't allow the press to shoot cameras with video capability. FIFA has already said that for the World Cup this summer that any cameras capable of shooting at a frame rate fast enough to create a video (D3s, 1D4, 7D, 5D etc..) won't be allowed on the sidelines. I imagine that the winter Olympics will follow a similar set of rules to protect the exclusive contracts with the TV networks for footage of the games.

he's got a good point, if most top quality pro cameras come with video then sports photographers at certain events where tv rights are an issue are gonna be limited with the kinds of shots they can take

yes I understand why he said that but i think that its good to have the option
kind of sucks for people in that situation with a setup that does video.

and they're probably the people who really need to use all the features of the camera, like the super fast fps and high iso

You realize that a lot of press photographers are now shooting video as well. It was a pain in the ass for them because they had to take a lil DV camera as well as their SLR now they can do it all with one camera cutting down on the amount of gear they have to carry around with them.

As a hobbyist photographer/indie film maker it's a really cool feature. But if someone hires you (read: Professional) to shoot video for a commercial and you show up with a $5000 still camera that can shoot videos instead of an Arri or Panavision then you're going to get laughed at.

How many professional photographers are going to waste their time shooting video of something newsworthy if they need to be submitting 300ppi .tif files for print?

Not allowing DSLR cameras with video is ridiculous. For the events that I've shot I had to sign a waiver saying I would not take any video which I think is acceptable. But to outright ban people with those cameras is stupid. If you are doing press at a event such as FIFA or the olympics you have to be somewhat professional. For the most part means your mature enough to follow rules. Banning those cameras is like banning a cell phone with a video camera. Just ridiculous.

this is not true, the 5d has been used in many commercials and it starting to be used in feature movies such as iron man 2.
and for anyone doubting the video capabilities or point of video on this camera
