Switzerland/Italy

I'm studying in Italy for the semester and want to try to get skiing at least one weekend. Where is the best place to go in Italy or Switzerland early in the season (late November early December.) I just figure Italy and Switzerland would be the easiest to get to. Do places open up that early?

Places will open up early, providing snowcover but expect good snow to be only around the 2000m mark mostly until dec/jan.

Check these resorts out:

Davos
Zermatt
Saas-Fee
Laax
Engelberg
Arosa
Verbiers
Arosa

There are a few more, but I have no idea in which part of switzerland/italy you are.. So there's a list to get you started. Laax, Engelberg, verbiers have sick off-piste posibilities, not sure about others. And Saas-Fee is known for its park.

I dont know about early opening, but the sickest italian resort i've been to was courmayeur, hands down!

and as for the schweiz; laax = one of the oldest and sickest funparks in europe
(no stats provided but it has been around like forever and its really sick !)

thanks...i'm in Florence so like way out of ski country haha. i think i'm looking at switzerland so ill check out those places. will they have any park/rails real early season? no matter what the conditions i'm so stoked. A bunch of my friends are going to interlaken for a weekend, are any of those resorts in that area? i really have no idea about skiing in the alps so help is muuuuch appreciated.. +karma

I think lausanne and gstaad are closest ones to interlaken... be a good 2 odd hours away though..

Best bet is to the check the resort sites, they will have the info up - some even tell you which jumps/rails are up.

I'm pretty sure that if theres snow, the park at saas fee may be already open - not sure though.

If it doesnt say on the site if the parks open, just email them and they usually respond within a day.
