(Copy paste what i wrote in a different thread about it)

In comparison to the last gen low end imacs, its a dope upgrade, but it comparison to the mid/high end imacs, not much of an upgrade at all. For example, in my perspective (i have 2.93 4gb with geforce gt120) not much of an upgrade, unless you want a 27 in screen (24 is big enough) and the graphics card is like barely better (like similar difference to 2.93 processor to 3.06 processor). Being able to upgrade to 16gb is pointless really, 8gb is too much, 4gb is plenty.

I mean, LED is dope, kinda want that, but 16x9 is kind of just a gimmick. The new mouse is cool too, along with wireless being standard now. Overall, dope upgrade to the low end, little to no upgrade to the mid/upper side. For consumor computers, the upgrade is ok. For people who don't want to break the bank on a mac pro and arent worried about upgrading, its pretty sick.

word.. the LED is definitely dope, but still an expensive technology for some reason. 4gb is plenty.. but if you can go to 16gb... sweet.. its definitely marketed towards people who need to fill the cpu to the max.. people don't like limits.. i agree with you in the just cause you can, doesnt mean you should ideology..

i am definitely ordering the magic mouse and soo glad i looked into macinsider.com first and found they would be releasing a new one.

imac would prolly be a computer for the house down the road if i get extra cash.

I think its a nice setup. I would like a mac pro but thats just not going to happen. and a pretty beefed up Imac would be a pretty good compromise.

i try really hard to like mac computers, especially as a product designer. I will say, conceptually and visually, they are fucking on point. the hardware is gorgeous. but the more i use them, the more they disapoint me. Ive been working on a new 24" imac the last few months in class, and it is an absolutely terrible computer. the thing crashes, locks up, and is slower than a shit after eating 5lbs of steak. Mac OSX is horrible. theres so much about it dont like. I really dont see how people prefer it over 7 or even vista ultimate (granted, you gotta have the ram to run it right). Those specs on the 27Inch are a fucking joke for 3.5 grand. my computer cost me 1000 bucks to build, and aside from the screen, is nearly identical. Power Macs, those are pretty damn legit, but really, i dont think ive ever been on a Macbook/pro or Imac that impressed me when i actually started using it. granted, they have a formula that sells computers, but that doesnt necessarily mean its a formula for good ones.

^^ those are not problems i usually hear about macs, i have worked on just about every computer they have put out in the past 5 years and i will never go back to a PC. For what i do (editing, PS, flash) i cant see anything being better IMO. As for my personnel computer i have had the same laptop for 4 years have upgraded it a few times and the minor issues i have had with it, apple has fixed free of charge after my warranty expired. So to me it is more than just the performance of their products that keeps me coming back, the customer service is top notch and as far as im concerned they have a customer for life.

but i also like hearing other peoples opinions on the subject

Those are the exact reasons why I will NOT buy a mac. Ever. There is no point at all. My computer runs the same programs as yours and cost 1/3 the price. Please try to tell me photoshop on a mac is different then on a pc.

my only issue right now is with my macbookpro is the miniDisplayport to DVI interferring with my wireless.. it completely knocks it out. as soon as i unplug it.. it works fine.. random..

Maybe not those specific programs but there are alot out there that are Mac only. Final Cut Studio and Garage Band come to mind, as well as million other things that are somewhat similar. Those may not seem important to you, but to a musician and possible communications/video editing major such as myself, they are important. Obviously there are things like Avid that will work on PCs, but its about personal preference. Even something like Garage Band that is free, is still awesome and useful. One thing to keep in mind also is that if you really want to run windows on a Mac, you can with boot camp and have both at the same time. As far as i know though, there is no legitimate way to run OSX on a PC. I could be wrong about the last part though. This is coming from somebody who as of right now, has never owned a mac, and was once a die hard PC loyalist.

Photoshop is not different, but when 75% of my friends have had to buy new PCs all while in school, i would say the price difference makes sense, final cut pro is the industry standard, and to be able to edit and design without the headaches and crashes makes a world of difference. In my experience macs are more reliable and more intuitive than PCs. Again with costumer service, PCs do not have ONE place to go to for repairs/software/accessories or anything else you would need, the process is streamlined, i respect peoples opinions that dont like macs, use what you want but for what i do/need macs are it

Not to add fuel to the fire, but at work we have a PC system and a Mac system. Both are maintained by a computer programmer, not me. the PC has about 3gb more RAM than the Mac, plus a "better" video/sound card. The programmer has told me numerous times that I should be editing on the PC because of it's "clear advantage." The only problem is, the PC dies on me almost daily, and it's nowhere near as fast as the Mac, even though it has better specs. With the Mac, I can run Final Cut Pro, and Color or After Effects simultaneously without it freezing. I'll be lucky if I can edit something in Adobe Premiere on the PC without having to restart it.

Well if you think about it like that. Final cut is not the industry standard. Maybe for small budget artists but then again, who are macs marketed towards...? I've never had to send my computer anywhere to get it fixed. One, because I've never had a major problem. And two, even if I did, I could fix it myself.

People keep making the argument that macs don't crash. Completely false. Every mac I have used has crashed. My pc, that I built for 1/6 the price of a mac, has never crashed. I have never once had a blue screen of death and I've never had a virus.

If you think macs are safer than please go research how quickly someone hacked into a mac and how viruses are being made for macs.

Unless you need a mac for some reason, you're just buying it for it's looks. And I'm done.

Where did I say anything about windows being safer...? Oh right. I didn't. I'm just saying I hate when people tell me macs are so much safer than pc's. Sure a fucking armored car is safer than a normal car but if you don't lock it, what good does it do? Same concept.

stop hating on mac because the general population is buying them now and its no longer an artsy cool thing to do..

75% of homes who own a mac also own a PC.. (same with me)

I switched to mac because everything i can do on a PC i could do on a mac and i was tired of worrying about display,audio,ethernet drivers, spam, rootkits, viruses, crashes, etc...

i was looking into a $600 HP that would do everything this mac could and had the same hardware, but at the end of the day the extra $200 i spent on the MBP was well worth it. (education discount, sold free itouch) because now i dont have to worry about vista and upgrading to windows 7 and then getting security patches everyday followed by restarts. Also, the battery life on the mac way a huge selling point.. 7 hours over the 3.5 the HP had... great for travel..

every computer will have problems... it is dependent on the user... so please.. take your head out of your window's ass...

realize im not hating on you.. just your opinion (which makes this a discussion)

You have to realize I'm talking about people who do not require the features and are buying it because it "looks good". Most people who own a mac could have easily gotten by with a pc. I'm not hating on macs at all. If they served my purpose, I might buy one. I'm hating on people who think they're trendy and buy something that everyone else is buying.

see i almost see it as the opposite. if you dont need massive computing power, and just need something for basic apps, a macbook or an imac makes sense. they're clean, uncluttered, look nice, etc. however, for actual performance related work, like 3d modeling, editing, gaming, etc, it just makes sense to get a PC, cause you can get way more bang for your buck (where it actually matters vs consumer stuff where its not as important), the clutter of wires and components is less of an annoyance, and it can be easily and cheaply upgraded over time.

I wasn't saying macs were more powerful. Some people have an actual use for them. Ie. for school. Of course pc's have more "bang for their buck". I said it in a previous post that I built mine for 1/6th the price.
